| Thrash's Wedding Chronicles So. I thought I would make a little journal/advice thread for me here temporarily.
I am planning my future out as we speak. I am actually about to take my lunch break to go look at some rings for my future bride. One of my high school teachers knows a jeweler and said he would give me a good deal.
Regardless, i am just looking. I refuse to buy unless I have the cash. I will not destroy my credit card!
When I get it figured out I will post pics.
Also, i have an idea for how I want to ask her, but will need some input. I think it is pure genius, but I could be wrong... |

Good plan. I would never buy something that expensive on credit.
Um... if you want us to give you input on your idea, you're gonna have to tell us what it is

| a few thoughts.
1) Is there a diamond district locally? Within a few hours
2) Pay cash and let it be known you will be paying cash as you negotiate the price of a ring. Diamonds are a high paced business where cash is king.
3) Do not go to a chain store. Period.
4) Custom rings can be less expensive than you think. (this is where I got my wedding ring, Wedding Rings & Celtic engagement Rings: affordable & unique gold ring designs!)
5) Know the culture of your diamond dealer. There are a few major types, and knowing the cultural bargaining methods used will help. PM me if you are unsure of what I mean.
I buy expensive things on credit all the time and pay them off, but with diamonds, expect to pay 10% less if you pay cash.

| Depending on how your lady feels about it, you could check into some estate pieces. I love old things, so I wouldn't be at all offended if my intended got something antique. In fact I'd probably prefer it. But your lady may feel differently about having something pre-owned. |

I checked out ebay, but frankly, i dont trust biying something like this over ebay. I want to be able to touch it and decide.

| You could check into some estate sales. Or even pawn shops. If you find something you like, it can be resized if needed. Or you could find the stones you like and then would have something to use to do a custom ring.
Any meaningful rings/stones in your family that you might be able to use? |

| The diamond I bought was just under .5 carat and was absolutely beautiful. I saved a lot of money by avoiding the chain stores. I would recommend spending some time on the internet reading up on diamonds. It helps to know where you can cut corners a little bit to get something to match your price range as well as look stunning. Check out this place for some helpful information.
