| Unfortunately for him, Chappaquiddick and the power of money remain his legacy.
I'm not trying to be mean or not compassionate, but it was something that my generation had to deal with when it happened.

| I appreciated his bipartisanship even if I didn't agree. From a Time article from last year: Indeed, almost every bipartisan bill in the last seven years has had Kennedy's signature on it, from No Child Left Behind and the Medicare Prescription Drug Program, to pension reform and a collective bargaining bill for first responders passed by the Senate just last week. Kennedy's legislative belief has always been to "never let the perfect be the enemy of the good," as he's said on many occasions. Even with bills that had major flaws, such as immigration reform, he believed it was better to pass something and then work to fix it later on. It was thanks to Kennedy's willingness to work with the other side that the immigration legislation came as close as it did to passage two years in a row. Kennedy "is a legendary lawmaker and I have the highest respect for him," Senator John McCain, the presumptive Republican nominee for President and Kennedy's partner on immigration reform, said in a statement Saturday. "When we have worked together, he has been a skillful, fair and generous partner."

I'm not trying to be mean or not compassionate, but it was something that my generation had to deal with when it happened. | For, I dunno, an hour or so, can we not engage in partisan or dancing-on-grave triumphalism (and yes, you are being mean and discompassionate) and simply mourn a human being, a father, a brother, son, uncle? |

If you were around then, maybe you might feel different or understand my perspective. |

| I am sending my prayers out to his family and friends. I have not agreed with all of his views, but I realize that they are hurting and are grieving just like others.

That is not his legacy, and this is absolutely not the time/place to drag out something that happened 40 years ago.
Praying for the family - this has been quite a week for them with the passing of Eunice just recently as well. |

| Wednesday was terrible for me; first, I had the flu, and then, while watching TV and trying to eat some chicken noodle soup, I find out my favorite senator died.
I wept. Ted Kennedy was truly the 'Lion' of the Senate, an example of what liberals should be- passionately dedicated to our causes, yet open to other viewpoints. He had heart and spine, a rare combination.
CSPAN will not be the same for me anymore. |
