I now have a turntable!

Yardsales for the win

Although, I have no idea what half of the controls do, and the plug that goes into the wall, is I believe, European. Where can I get an adapter for this? Pictures attached.

Check wally world for the adaptor. Where the extension cords are or where the luggage is (I seem to remember seeing foreign adapter thingys there).

Do you have speakers/amp/stereo?

And you BESTA have those records vertical! If you stack them flat they can warp/crack/bad-stuff...

Radio Shack could likely get you the right converter to plug that thing into the wall.

Yes, the speakers were part of the deal.
I'm pretty sure they are vertical.

Question(s) though...
there's a dial that's labeled Pitch. What does that do?

Attached is a picture of another dial that I have no idea what it does.

I know on one of mine the pitch dial changes the speed. Slower = lower pitch, Faster = Higher Pitch. It was for fine tuning, not really for switching to 45 or 78....

And I have no idea what the other knob is... Maybe a needle adjuster? IDK LOL :dink:

Do you have a brand name/model number for this unit?

Let me check with a friend of a friend... Might be able to get you a manual...

That's usually the norm nowadays.... Not too many people listen to 78s anymore...

Here's the skinny on one very similar...

and here's the fancy words for the features:

- Super quiet Belt-Drive design
- Quarter-Automatic operation
- Electronic Motor Start
- Standard 1/2" Cartridge mount
- DC Servo motor for speed accuracy
- Separate 33 and 45 RPM speeds
- Speed monitored by strobe marks on platter mat (use with fluorescent light to adjust)
- Oil-damped cueing mechanism protects records and speakers from damage by allowing precisely controlled cueing elevation of the tone arm
- Cast aluminum "H-beam", low mass, straight tone-arm
- Anti-Skating adjustment with compensation for either Conical or Elliptical styli
- Adjustable Tone-arm sliding weight / damper

I think that "Elliptical / Spherical" thing does indeed refer to different stylus types... usually I've heard them referred to as elliptical and conical but I can imagine "conical" and "spherical" being the same thing here... sort of. I don't know why there'd be a switch for it--my guess is it automatically adjusts the tracking pressure depending on which stylus you've got. But this is all just guessing for me.

I wish I had a fine-tune pitch adjustment on mine... my turntable is all automatic so I can't do diddly squat about anything, except for replace the cartridge and stylus.
