Granted, the Mustang (and Barracuda) were the original pony cars brought out during the muscle car era, joined later by the Camaro, Firebird, Cougar, Challenger and Javelin.
That said, by 1970 and '71 each of those vehicles had FAR outgrown their original pony car dimensions and were available with 400+ cubic inch engines, putting them square in the muscle car category more than the pony car category.
No doubt about it, the 1971 Mustang was a pig, not a pony.

The new Camaro is pretty cool too, I've seen a few around. I heard they go for 20,000.

The base model 2010 Camaro MSRP is $22,245, the top of the line is $33,340, and I'm assuming that you can bump it up a bit more with options.

Frankly, buying a base model "performance" car that is stripped of anything that might give the lumbering pig any performance is like buying the failboat, rather than just getting a ticket for a ride.

The base Camaro is hardly a lumbering pig.
306 horsepower, good brakes and suspension make it a decent performing base model and quite comparable to the Hyundai Genesis coupe base.
Where it really fails in in the back seat room. Again, they basically made a 2 seater with useless rear cushions.

The new Camaro also weighs 3800+ pounds. That amount of weight = lumbering pig, regardless of power.

Given the HUGE weight disadvantage, it really isn't comparable to the Genesis Coupe.

That, and nostalgia aside, the Genesis Coupe track model w/ the 2L turbo is likely a better car, and the one that I would choose.

The fact that to have even close to the same performance level you're spending a minimum of $5k more on the chevy doesn't help it for me.

arent muscle cars? Oh guess I don't know what it is this.

Also some one was talking about fuel cars... as in Hybrids? If so I HATE THE UGLY CAR BY THE NAME OF PRIUS WITH A PASSION. Prius's are everywhere and I HATE them.
I read the above quoted material several times and have thus come to one logical conclusion: You are drunk. Or a newb. Or a bot/troll. I'm still confused, actually.

He knows how to communicate. And, yes, he knows more than most of us about cars. And an automatic is permissable if you don't have full function of your legs.

Good question. One can always tell the actual weight of a vehicle with the ever impressive 'butt-scale', made famous by the equally reliable 'butt-dyno'.

I simply mean you can call a car a "lumbering pig" without ever actually being in it and seeing how it performs.

3800 pounds is 3800 pounds. Weight is weight. No one makes a 3800 pound car that isn't a lumbering pig. Not even Bugatti, Mercedes, BMW, Cadillac..... whoever.

The rule of thumb with sports cars is still: "Smaller is better, lighter is best, handling above all else."

And weight to power is still the king on the strip. There's a reason that some Hondas run pretty fast 1/4 times, even though they aren't dropping down 400+ to the wheels.

I would still take the Camaro over ANY Honda.
