#16 | | Algebraic! | I don't know much about the G8, but after I thought about it awhile, this is what came to mind for "modern muscle".

| What's the point of the M5/CTS-V? Easy. It's for those need a car to pull double-duty as a comfortable people hauler and a track car.
Muscle or import? I'll take a domestic sports car, please.
(Don't get me wrong, I love straight-line cars to, just prefer ones that can corner.)

The CTS-V is a powerful car. The M5 is a powerful car. Both are fast. Both are also infinitely pointless. You're in a car so huge, heavy, and so luxury-filled, that you're so separated from the actual road that it's retarded. It's like sitting on a sofa, and watching the world go by at a million miles-per-hour. Absolutely useless for actual 'performance driving.' Everyone in the real world is only going to use them for tooling around to demonstrate how much money they can waste, and occasionally doing the useless burnout to demonstrate how 'fast' their car is.
| That is kinda the point of luxury/ sport sedans... being able to go fast without feeling like it. However, these cars (specifically the Caddy) ran a only 1 second longer on the road course than a Lotus Exige S 260... which is not as nearly comfortable. While this isn't the first car I'd buy if I had a lot of money I still think it's pretty awesome. I think you should read the article. Quote:
And come to think of it.... I doubt BMW is really concerned with anything Cadillac is producing anyway. For the money, there will always be faster and more powerful cars than a BMW M-anything. But the owner of said M-car, will not care one bit. Give me a choice between a new M5, a CTS-V, and the 4-banger M3... and I'll choose the last one every time. It has 192 horses, goes 0-60 in right around 7 seconds, and no one who has one cares, because they're having more fun. | this is probably true... I've heard those handle incredibly well.

| INDEED! Corvette= Greatest production car ever made (for the money )
I thought of another comparison (not by price)
Original Muscle
1972 Corvette Stingray
Modern Muscle
(the "I wish category)
2010 Corvette Stingray Concept
(the "I could actually buy one" (if I was rich) category)
2009 Corvette ZR1
Import (closest I could think of)
Ferrari 599 GTB
I would take the modern Muscle fo sho

While this isn't the first car I'd buy if I had a lot of money I still think it's pretty awesome. I think you should read the article. | It's like I said.... the times don't matter. The guy who's in the market for an Exige isn't in the market for a Caddy. Not now, and probably not ever. He's in the market for a sports car, and the Exige is about the best one on the planet. He's actually having fun, while the people in the Caddy are simply being bludgeoned to death by a leather interior, while watching the world go by abnormally fast in the window. And that goes for the M5, as well. And the RS6, and the E63..... And BMW is apparently going to be releasing a 600-horse M5 sometime. Will that make it better? No. These 'supersedans' are like a nuclear arms race. It's all about who can build the biggest, most powerful, and most impressive machinery on paper. Meanwhile, the guy buying the Caddy or the Bimmer is someone like your grandfather, with too much money. In any case, it still makes me laugh that Chevy needs 6.2 Liters and a supercharger to make 556 horses. If they actually made it a high performance engine, they should be able to get well over 600 out of their 6.2, naturally aspirated.
And on to your Ferrari/Corvette comparison..... Again. Ferrari is not competing with Chevy. They never really have. They don't want to. One of Ferrari's main selling points is exclusivity. They cost so much, that no one can buy one. That's kind of the whole point. Ferrari probably cares that the Corvette is on similar performance ground about as much as they care that a Suzuki sportbike will run a sub-10 quarter mile. So no, that's a terrible comparison. Sticking with something in the Corvette's price range, the closest you'll find is probably a Porsche 911 GT3. But it's still a completely different kind of car.....

#21 | | Algebraic! | I actually didn't intend to have my image change to a 'Vette...I think I fixed it. Personally I never really thought of the 'Vette as a muscle car. |

I said that some people (generally unintelligent snobs) actually WANT their car to be a fast lounge on wheels. Quote: |

| I'm talking strictly by size and performance abilities (the Corvette wins BTW) I know Ferrari doesn't think of it as a competitor, but GM can say "Our car is better and 1/3 of the price" (it's like Khols vs Hollister IMO)... I tend to care more about what my car can do than how much money I payed for it.
Corvette really is it's own thing... one more reason to love it Quote:

In any case.... I care less about the car I'm driving than the abilities of the person behind the wheel. The best performance mod that someone can do... is go to driving school.
If you care more about what it can do... then go buy a sportbike, and be done with it for under 10 grand. Quote:

| This is true... I know a few people that have gone to a driving/ racing school just for the heck of it. I guess I know what I want for HS graduation Quote:

It's all about who has the huevos to hit the brakes later than the next guy.... Mika Häkkinen in a Miata would make most everyone else look silly, no matter what they were driving. |
