Has your Visa Card ever been Hijacked?

After several years of plying this card, someone has finally managed to ding me! Normally don't check my list of transactions every time but when the total looks high, I do. I could not believe what I saw - nine transactions for the same day, same place! They crazy? Well I got my cape on and swung into action - now they have to find out how to reach me (again).
Huumm crooks!
Happy ending

I actually had Visa call me to let me know that I had been hijacked. I had transactions in San Diego, CA (I did some grocery shopping) and in Plano, TX ($900 at Walmart and another $12 or so at a restaurant) on the same day.

I had this happen this last week actually. I was in Anaheim at Disneyland/California Adventure and someone made some purchases online. My bank stopped the charges, deactivated my card, and called me in the same day.

No, but I also have a story of a bank being so efficient that they called me the same day on a questionable purchase. I was in a company car and drove up to northern California - way up in Siskiyou - for a business meeting. When I got in the car to leave I had a flat tire. I called and talked to the CEO and we decided to replace all 4 tires before I left for home. Since buying tires 500 miles from home wasn't a typical behavior for me, they called me on my cell phone to check. I was very impressed. I think that was CitiBank.

I once paid for a parking ticket in Mobile, Alabama.

Never been to Alabama.

Apparently someone pressed a couple of wrong numbers while putting in their credit card number... Did get my money back though...

I had this happen to me recently. Apparently someone swiped the card information itself, rather than either of our physical cards. They obviously made up a fake card and used it to buy gas at two different gas stations on the same day. The credit card company graciously reversed the charges.

Thankfully, I've never had any of my cards hi-jacked. I some times get out of the routine of checking my account every few days. This just reminded me that it's been a while and I need to check on it.

Not yet, but I monitor my bank account pretty closely, and it offers full protection, so I should be alright. Such a hassle, though.

My old bank, while I have many many many complaints about them, had one brilliant idea. You could, while purchasing online, get a 1 use visa number that only had exactly the amount of money you needed for your purchase on it. 100% effective anti-cc theft.

Wow. I'm surprised so many people have been hacked.

The only time my bank has tried to stop a hijack, it was me that was doing the charging.

I was paying up-front premiums and utility deposits on all the stuff I needed to get taken care of before buying our new place, and I guess the bank thought it was strange that there would be like 4 or 5 multi-hundred dollar charges within a few hours.

It was quite aggravating, actually. They didn't call me or anything, just stopped the card entirely.

I'm not. My mom works for a bank as a fraud investigator, so I've heard all kinds of crazy stories.

Hey, everyone! If you work at a retail establishment where you take credit cards, please remember to ask for ID and check signatures! Do it! Also, make sure your debit/credit machine has not been tampered with. Put some sort of distinctive sticker or something on it so you know if it's been replaced (with one that collects people's card information) and can report it.

I had someone take my mastercard once...I didn't realize it was missing until the next day - USAA caught it before I did. I went to buy groceries the next day and my card (VISA) was declined, so I called USAA and found a bunch of unauthorized charges on my mastercard. USAA was great, though, they canceled all the fraudulent charges and sent me new cards, so ultimately no harm done.

I know in Montreal, several of the ATMs got hacked and I knew people who had card information (but not the physical card) taken.

They just want me to come in so they can explain the new changes in my policy and stuff... I have 2 Chase (used to be WaMu) cards with nothing on them... but since I am never gonna use em (getting off credit cards, just keeping them for emergencies... had nothing on em in years), I think I'll pass...
