*SPOILERS*
According to him nobody would ever be allowed to just ride around Iraq in one humvee like the characters did throughout the movie. If someone did this they would be immediately attacked. |
My friend disputed this claim. There are definitely some instances in which it wouldn't be allowed but my friend claimed that it wasn't out of the question or necessarily uncommon. As an interesting side note, a tactic terrorists would employ would be to split open dead dogs, stuff them with mortar shells or similar explosives, then jury rig it as an IED. If they saw something like this as they rode around they would shoot it from a distance to be sure.
He said that the way they portray the personality an EOD is generally accurate. They're generally off, they think in unconventional ways, and much of society might consider what they do to be apparent suicide. That is of course why they get imminent danger pay in addition to combat pay.
I'm not claiming that this film is the end all be all of war films, nor am I saying that every single detail is accurate. Although it is true that many soldiers definitely share common experiences, it is also true that experience is largely subjective and dependent on the soldier's location, time of the tour, etc etc.
Anyway, there's not really a reason for you (since you don't know me) to believe what I'm saying or believe that I'm good friends with a Ranger who has served extensively in Afghanistan and Iraq. For all you know I could be making it up in an attempt to create another argument for watching the film. Believe what you want to.
