| District 9 Somehow, I'm the first one to make a thread about this. This film was excellent.
It's basically a metaphor for apartheid (the film takes place in South Africa, which should ring a bell) by way of a well made action film.
"An extraterrestrial race forced to live in slum-like conditions on Earth suddenly find a kindred spirit in a government agent that is exposed to their biotechnology."
Trailer: YouTube - District 9 - Official Trailer 2 [HD]
I should note however, it's not rated R for nothing. The use of F-words felt on par with "The Departed" and once the action starts, it's extreme.

When you call anything with harsh vocals "screamo", it makes as much sense as calling anything with distorted guitar "heavy metal". |

I kind of want to see this, but I have to say that I'm not a fan of movies that drop the f-bomb like every other word. Its just unecessary. None the less, I'll probably still see this.

| Saw this this evening/morning.
Great movie.
I do want to warn you, if you havnt seen this movie yet, prepare to be disgusted, and shocked.
This movie is incredibly graphic, and dark.
There are things that didnt make sense in the movie, but I was able to overlook those in order to see the story being told. And it was worth it.

| I've been wanting to see this since I first saw the trailers. I read a review yesterday, however, that tempered my enthusiasm. The reviewer was enthused with the premise and the first half of the movie, but was disappointed by the turn towards straightforward action that didn't really have anything new to bring to the genre.
I'll still see it, but my hopes have been lowered slightly, which is probably for the best. |

| It does look good. I don't know if I'll get a chance to go see it but it's on my list.

(Note that I'm not predicting this movie will be remembered as a classic in 40 years.)

| Fantastic move.
I love that no one really cared who they were or where they came from, but hated them anyways. |

It was definitely well produced, though. But, man. Paper-thin story, IMO. |

| Excellent, excellent, excellent!
The f-words didn't bother me much because of the accents, it came out more like 'faawk' (hope that doesn't get edited out). The violence was gruesome, but somehow because it involved aliens, wasn't as disturbing as a serious, historical portrayal like Saving Private Ryan.
By far the best / my favorite sci-fi film in a long time.

| I read the review in Rolling Stone today which said that it brought something new to the genre, and Pete Travers is usually pretty correct, at least in my eyes.
I want to see this very very badly.

*warning... possible spoilers*
I cant decide whether I absolutely hated this movie or if I just disliked it ( I just got home from it). It wasn't really the plot that bothered me (it was rather good) it was the absolute brutality/darkness of it (not to mention all the vomiting). Normally that kind of stuff wouldn't bother me, but I have a recurring dream/ nightmare where I am in some weird combination of a lab/ torture facility... and it always is in some kind of a hotel or sub basement in some slum somewhere. This movie was just too darn close to my dream for me to enjoy.
The exploding bodies were nasty, but they were nothing compared to that biolab in my mind.
btw am I the only one who thinks it was set up for a sequel?
