How fast have you driven?

What was the fastest you have ever driven and what type of vehicle was it? (airplanes do NOT count... although I wouldn't mind knowing those figures as well)

The fastest I have driven was somewhere between 95-102mph in the HHR. (this was a bad idea and wont happen again... especially not on a driving permit...) I have also been in my brothers 88 Bonneville going between 105-110+mph. (his speedometer only goes to 85, but we have a GPS and it tells speed) Chances are I have also been over 100mph in my dad's 94 Corvette, but I was too little to really remember.

So how about the rest of you guys? Also... was it legal where you did it?

Hahaha..... I think threads like this have existed before, and I don't think they ended well.

In any case:

In airplanes.... over 200 mph indicated at down close to 200' of altitude. In cars, 147 mph indicated, unverified.

I pushed a '03 Ford Focus to it's governed speed (109mph). I think I once took my '93 Toyota Pickup to 110mph. I don't think I've really ever tried to push my '98 Civic much over 100mph nor did I ever push my '93 F150. It did all of these within San Diego city limits

The fastest I've gone in a car I wasn't driving was in the 125-130 range in a Nissan Maxima ('02 or '03). This was between El Paso and San Antonio on I-10, so there's not much to hit out there.

So yeah...in all cases these were indicated speeds and it was illegal.

Not sure, speedometer was broken, blowing past someone who was going 140. It was in a legal area as it was on private property in a car with 2 4 barrel carburetors in a '65 El Camino. Not quite sure, but I am guessing 160. On freeways, 104 at least. Got a ticket for it too. Try to go as close to the speed limit as is physically possible on an LA freeway.

i went 130 on a yamaha r1. speed always seems faster on a bike than in a car...i guess b/c of the wind hitting you.

Well, obviously, my current daily driver is the most capable missile I've ever had and as a result the fastest I've ever gone. Didn't quite hit the limiter, but pretty close. Somewhere over 180 mph, but i'm not entirely sure the exact speed. Other fun toys:

talon: 143
gvr4: 145+ (speedo ends)
4runner: 110 (probably optimistic)
86 accord: 125
SV650: 119
R6: 152
KZ400: 101
CB500: 113

for what it's worth on the 180+ i'm not sure of the indicated speed, but I do know that you kiss the rev limiter in 5th gear at 175mph and I had been in 6th for probably 10 seconds before I let off. Realistically, it does 0-186 in 18.7 so it had to be pretty close

i think the fastest i've ever gone is around 85 mph in my dad's minivan while passing someone on the highway. it will go faster though, the speedometer goes up 120 i think. i've done about the same speed with our 89 accord.

I love listening to stories about FWD crap-boxes on Costco tires doing more than 70 mph. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.

The fastest I went was 85 in a 65 in a driver's ed car. I was cruising along with the traffic and didn't realize a thing. Thankfully the instructor didn't either.

If you go less than 70 on the interstate in San Diego you're going to get run off the road.

unless you are in something freakishly big. I ran a moving van at around 65 while moving, but 85 is pretty average, wouldn't you say?

Depending on the time of day, I'd guess the typical vehicle is going at least 75 down here. I usually try to keep it under 75 but above 70 and I always feel sluggish. I hear you on the big though...when I had my F150 I'd keep it down around 65-70, not because it was too big to go fast but because the loss of mpg got very apparent above 70.

Yeah, I tend to agree.

125 in a 55, unverified. Governed speed of my car. 2006 Subaru Impreza 2.5i. It was most certainly illegal, and my brother was doing the same speed in his 2005 Subaru Impreza 2.5RS.

In my 1999 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport, I got it up to the governed speed of 110 several times.

In my 1985 Subaru, I buried the needle at 85 a few times... My guess would be 100 MPH max in that car.

Now, I really only speed when I am driving the ambulance.

When I was 16 I had a 1972 Monte Carlo with a 402 big block. The speedometer went to 120. I once went past 120 and back to 10 again. I don't know how fast that was except that it was too fast for a 16 year old. I once drove a police Corvette about a city block in second gear. I was doing about 95 when I let up on the accelerator. That thing skeered me. (I had a sign company and was putting the signs on the Vette. I had to drive it - didn't I?)
