I-94 and 696 near the airport is insane. If you aren't going 80ish you get run off the road. When I was going 90-95is in the HHR some guy in a Mustang Cobra didn't like me passing him so he floored it... he was probably doing 115 so chances are he would have got the ticket. Still If I would have been pulled over I would have lost my license till I was 18 .

I say 'unverified,' because I never looked at the speedo again once it swept past 145.... and I let off shortly thereafter.

As far as the fastest thing I've ever 'driven'.... that would be a 2003 GSX-R 750. I didn't do any high speed runs, but running around in first and second at 60-70 mph was.... odd.

Probably a maximum of 100km/h in my Ford Laser while I was on my Ls last year. Learners can only go a maximum of 80. 100 would have been accidental, of course, but some days I'd be driving on a country road, generally deserted, and I'd do between 85-95.

Now that I have my Ps, and cops pay stricter attention to them, I am very careful about how I drive.

But generally if I speed, it's only a few kms over the limit, and in a spot where I'm sure it won't cause an accident (not to mention some, including my brother, would argue that speeding doesn't kill).

You've forgotten more about chassis dynamics than I know, and my knowledge destroys that of the 17 year olds reading this and looking at their family's minivan in lustful ways. My point is, when the shite hits the fan, clapped out Honda or no, we have the necessary abilities to keep ourselves out of the oncoming lane.

Fastest I've driven has been around 105. Fastest I've ridden has been in the 125-130 range. Both were illegal, obviously. The last one was around 4 or 4:30 in the morning on US-67 coming back south from Dallas. Fastest trip home from Dallas (45 miles) I've ever had.

120ish in: '97 Plymouth Neon (2.0l lightly modified), '73 Plymouth Satellite Sebring Plus (400ci stock), '65 Plymouth Barracuda (273ci 4bbl mostly stock)...all on random SoCal freeways at various times/years...and I went 140ish around California Speedway in Fontucky driving a NASCAR-prepped Monte Carlo.

My dad said he once had his cruise control on 120 (84ish corvette) on some freeway in Texas...

I wish there were more opportunities for younger drivers to race LEGALLY. I haven't really had any luck finding a junior racing league in MI...

*1,342,000 mph

*Movement of the local group (and thus my car as well) relative to the cosmic microwave background. Relative to the road the speed is much lower and therefore less interesting.

And that doesn't tell you something? How about the fact that you started this thread to begin with...or maybe the line under your screen name? I wouldn't trust too many youth out there on a track with a car... there are exceptions of course, but the majority of kids don't have the judgement or level of responsibility required to safely race a car. I see it almost everyday I drive the M.

When I was 16 I remember going to this road outside town with some friends and trying to max out the speedometer on my parents '93 Chevy Cavalier. We hit somewhere around 115 and thought it was all kinds of fun. Less than a year later three kids from my school were killed on the same road doing the same thing... that combined with the fact that I lose my job if I get a ticket like that has killed my need for speed. I can't remember the last time I was more than 5 over the limit
