A couple of Les Paul related questions...

First, I want to change the knobs on my BFG. They aren't coming off when I pull, are there any tricks to get them off?

Second, can you change pickup covers on a P-90? I think mine would look awesome if it were cream colored, but I wouldn't buy a new pickup just to change the color.

I haven't seen the knobs on the BFG, but is it possible that they have a set screw?

If they don't, I've used a technique (I think I stole it from Jon...) where you use a t-shirt to wrap around the bottom of the knob so you can pull straight up and get a bit more leverage.

Yup. I don't like using pliers or anything hard and nasty on my knobs, just a T-shirt wrapped around under the knob works nearly all the time; as long as your knob doesn't have a small loosening screw, which you should check for first (they're fairly uncommon...),

I used to take a piece of felt and a flathead screwdriver and pry it off. (Felt obviously is to keep the screwdriver from scratching the finish

You can also use a shoe string and wrap around and slowly pull up on it. It doesn't harm the finish either and sometimes provides just a bit more leverage than a shirt.

I'm fairly sure there isn't a loosening screw on it. I'm probably going to try using a bandanna (I think that's what I used to get some Strat knobs off in the past) and if that doesn't work I'll try the screwdriver and/or the shoe lace.

also, 2 shoelace pieces work. Wrap one under each side, and lift. It keeps it balanced.

I tried the bandanna and it was still stuck so I tried the flathead screwdriver and they popped right off. One of them even flew off. lol

I replaced them with some cream colored knobs that I got from guyskankrye (thanks!) and they look great! Originally I thought they'd work with my Strat, and they would have looked good on it, but they just look like they were made for the Les Paul.

See pics of the new look here. The first one is a before picture, so you can see what it looked like with the wooden knobs.

The cream pick-ups do looks quite nice. The wooden knobs are nice enough but they didn't really fit with that guitar.

That's a cool little combination you got going on there. It kind of messes with my eyes because the knobs look like they belong on a Strat, but then, they look so natural on the Les Paul too.

I'm not the biggest fan of the white...it's a little better than the wood, and I think white would look good. I'm just not stoked on that particular knob type.

I think Gibson discontinued the BFGs, so I'd like to keep all the original parts with the guitar. Plus you never know when I might decide to put Les Paul knobs on a Strat.
