Dude. I just checked and I've logged over 4k words today. I had no idea I could do that. I think this not planning thing is going to be my plan from now on.

I just cracked the 10,000 word mark so am taking a short break. I did the unthinkable this morning and started a totally different story. I got up to about 400 words and realized it was part of the other one after all. I love it when things like that happen.

I'm writing a novel about a guy discussing a novel his younger brother wrote that steals a horrific event from his past and turns it into a bestseller. He then has to deal with jealousy, mistrust and the urge to correct all of the fabrications and untruths in his brother's work.

We'll see how it goes.

That's a solid concept. I'll definitely want to read it once you're "done."

I just cranked out another 800 words since lunch. I've got as much time to write today as I want. I've also found my main character's voice and the story is starting to flow. I wonder if I can hit 20,000 words before I crash tonight?

This is my first time ever doing this thing. I joined/started a few days late (I. E., two days ago, on the 4th), started completely from scratch, story-wise, and I'm already at a 6,000 word count, give or take a few hundred. I write a lot anyway, so this isn't really as bad as I thought, starting late and all. The difference is WHAT I'm writing, I guess. It's pretty unusual for me. I usually write sci-fi or fantasy stuff, and I find myself writing what is, thus far, a sappy Victorian era story. Maybe I'll throw some murders or something in there, just to spice things up...

Good job. Remember, it's all about quantity, not quality. Editing and rewriting can wait until December.

I'm now up to 12,227 words and I'm taking another break. I've written almost 4,000 words this afternoon. Yes.

Keep writing.

Thanks for the advice, Leboman. And, after another 1,000 words, I think I'm going to make this a Gothic horror novel. I need some atmosphere and running and screaming to add some descriptive wordcount. Now, do I make it vampires, werewolves, or ghosts?

A ghost werepire. Or vampwolf. The other option would be to pick a little-used mythic monster, perhaps a mummy or ghoul. Goblins or faeries (the old-school, vicious kind) would also be options.

So, you thinking of HP Lovecraft? Chulthu?

Or, how about Victorian-era zombies?

I knew I wasn't going to get anything done yesterday or today due to family and church obligations. Good thing I was two days ahead on the word count. I'll need to really knock it out tomorrow to get back on track.
