I'm choked that no one has mentioned Free At Last. In my mind, that is the essential DC Talk album. "Luv is a Verb," "Socially Acceptable," "Free At Last," "Time Is...," "The Hardway," and "I Don't Want It" are all great songs! Okay, yes, Jesus Freak is certainly the better album, but Free At Last is quintessential DC Talk. And I still love it.

Jesus Freak and Supernatural are my favorite studio albums from dc talk. My all-time favorite album of theirs, though, is their live album Welcome To The Freak Show. It's got a collection of some of their greatest songs as well as capturing the highly energetic live performances they delivered in concert.

I think the best solo album of his was Empty, and that was almost solely because of Pete Stewart on the guitar. Kevin has definitely released my favorite of their solo albums in Stereotype Be. I can't get enough of that one.

That album is a lot of fun as well, and it makes number three on my list of favorite studio albums from the band.

Yep. Free At Last is amazing. Jesus Freak and Free at Last are my top two.

As a sidenote, dc Talk in concert was/is WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY better than the Newsboys, and I saw the newsboys when John James was the lead singer and then when Peter Furler was the lead singer. dcTalk were far better performers.

Welcome to the Freak Show is an excellent live album. I always enjoyed Supernatural as well as Jesus Freak... I had their entire discography... I really can't stand to listen to them anymore though because I literally wore out everything I had of theirs.

I can't believe no one has mentioned Nu Thang. It is definitely a difficult listen (I have to be in the mood for the 80's sounding stuff), but has some good stuff on there. This and the self-titled album give a good perception of just how far their sound changed.

Ha! I have DC Talk and Nu Thang on cassette. They're almost unlistenable. Nu Thang does have a couple songs that show the potential where Free At Last came from.

I am right there with you man

I remember as a kid listening to my new Jesus Freak CD, I was listening to the Jesus Freak reprise song. I had just got my first CD player as well...my mom thought I was melting the CD! LOL

As stated earlier, Jesus Freak and Supernatural are must haves, followed closely by Free At Last. I loved Welcome to The Freakshow growing up, but lost it and have yet to find it again. There is some fantastic talent all the way around with them, especially their backing band. I'm most fond of Kevin Max's stuff, and Tait is alright. Toby Mac comprises almost everything I hate about CCM into one human being, but that's just one man's opinion. My band covers My Friend (So Long) and Supernatural on occasion, as well as In The Light on acoustic gigs. Good stuff.

Heh, we're getting ready to do In The Light this weekend, only much more rock and raw sounding. I think it's a song that fits almost every genre you play it in.

YouTube it!

On a side note...we should have a CGR cover contest...that'd be cool!

I've actually been thinking off and on about how it could be fun to pick a single, simple song (something like "In the Light" would be perfect) and have people submit their own covers of that song. That way everyone is giving their interpretation of a single song.
