| Classic cars eh?
+1on the DB5 and the MGA...The RSR is pretty classic too.
Triumph TR6
BMW 2002tii
Porsche 959
If the IROC is a classic, then this DEFINATELY qualifies:
Cosworth 190e

| These are easily my two top "classic" cars.
I'd love to see what either of these cars could be made to do on an autocross circuit. (with modern suspensions of course)
Ford GT40
1970 Chevy Corvette
(yeah...so the one in the pic isn't stock...)

That seems like entirely the wrong way to use that car... I think it might get owned by someone in an Exige... And as for the Corvette.... that would possibly be the most frustrating autocross event in the history of mankind. |

| Not. necessarily. Local legend tells of one driver who used to really cause trouble for the cobra guys at autocross meets.
As for the GT40, it has the potential to slaughter the Exige. Like a cobra, it's heavier than the lotus, but has a much bigger engine. Judging by what the cobras all end up doing to the competition, (they beat everything that's street legal) I'd say the GT40 would fair pretty well.
If too much power was your concern with the GT40, consider that some of these local cobras are sporting 427 stroker motors putting out close to 500 hp, and I know of at least one that's also sporting a Kenne Bell supercharger on top of that.

I'm intrigued as to how they do that.... I'd also like to see the sort of autocross track that this is run on...
Meh, the GT40 is down 50 years suspension technology on an Exige... that, and the fact that an Exige S 240 is easily tuned to 300+ horses.... And we aren't even discussing suspension/brake mods or Caterham products yet. Superlight R500 = autocross monster. |

Of course, the better drivers aren't the ones I'm seeing doing this. Don't know many of the suspension details, but I'm guessing they're fully IRS with LSD. Got a ride in a friend's 65 coupe replica, and his did not have power steering. Quote: |

| It's a car that's almost as light, with a far more powerful engine. I still say it has the potential to rock and Exige. 300+ hp is good, but can't compare with 500+ from a V8. I'd like to see how they'd match up in a stock race, then a modified race.
And yes, a carterham is a autocross monster.

| my dad had a prepped corvette that he autocrossed quite competitively in the early 90's. Of course it was a very, very not stock car (based on a 1965) that weighed 1800lb minus driver, had 13" wide slicks on the front, and an aluminum 350 that put out ~400hp
It wouldn't have been classed with an exige though, and I somehow doubt a gt40 would either. As to how competitive a faster but less nimble car might be, I think that really comes down to the design and length of the track. I've seen DSM's annihilate prepped miatas before on faster tracks that they'd never compete with on a tighter course |
