I was wondering if you guys could get a forum or sub-forum up for the Military, Police, Firemen, Paramedics, and the sort up? I don't know how many people on here do that kind of thing, but I'm sure it would be appreciated. Just trying to throw some ideas out there.
The best way to see if there's an interest is to start a thread in the Occupations & Careers forum and see if there are other people interested in discussing those types of careers. I know we have a couple military folks on the forum as well as an ambulance driver or two, so there might be an interest.
I was once a policeman. Then I was a deputy sheriff. I was a registered EMT at the same time.
I eventually had to give it up. I admire the people that do these jobs nowadays. They definately have to have the heart for it. When I quit I was making $4.55 per hour at 60 hours a week with no overtime pay. I was in my 20's. Then I got a family started and couldn't live on the meager pay. The shoes that they made me buy as part of my uniform cost me around $105. My firearm cost me around $400. I can't see now how I could afford all the stuff I had to have for the job that my employers would not pay for.
“Life is a river. Rivers are always changing. We are always supposed to be changing, evolving, and growing, always supposed to be getting deeper in our relationship with God. There’s always more to go, always more to grow, always more to learn.”
I suppose any profession could have it's own forum and if there were enough members in that profession it would thrive. The problem with that is that most people who post here tend to avoid discussing their jobs - this is kind of an escape from work.
Another possibility would be to start a user-related social group.
I could start a user-related social group for nurses, and Jodi and I could have a nice conversation.
