Acrylic Sets

What are the advantages/disadvantages to these sets?
My drummer just got a vintage 1971 Ludwug Acrylic set adn i was wanting to know a little more about them out of curiosity... I suppose a lot has to do with preferences.

VERY VERY VERY HUGE SOUND! Yes, it warrants caps. It's not for everybody, the tone is significantly different.

Yeah, I haven't seen his set yet, but he said one of the toms attached to the bass is almost the size of his Pearl's floor tom!
I hope it sounds good.... I don't wanna play with a crappy drumset! Of course, he is going to put around 400 dollars or so into it to get it ready. It needs new heads for pretty much everything, needs to be severely cleaned, and some other minor problems.

It's not gonna sound like any set you've ever played with. And don't think you're gonna get away with playing at low volumes and keeping up with it. Set all those notions aside, those things are SUPER loud.

That is actually perfect for us. Our drummer used to let everything go and play loud, then he started playing softer and has been for the past few years. Now he has to play loud! I hope he'll have to hit his cymbals harder....

Ill have to take some pics and show you. I haven't even seen it for myself yet, but apparently it is amazing!
