| What strings do you use on your Carvin Cobalts? I currently own a Carvin c980t and use EXP17's on it, but have used Elixirs and John Pearse strings in the past. Personally, its a toss up between EXP's and John Pease in my opionion.
What strings do you use and recommend for best sound quality for your cobalt acoustics? |

| When I owned a Cobalt, I ususually used Elixir strings. It's all personal preference though...just as it is with any other guitar.
I also like DR Sunbeam, Dean Markley Alchemy, etc.

| I've never owned a Cobalt, but I usually use either EXPs or Elixirs on my acoustics; more EXLs lately since my local GC stopped carrying Elixir...

| And still the same stretch-prone metals underneath. |

| All of the coated strings I've ever tried definitely sounded much less bright than normal.... |

| Each to his own; I literally put a set of coated strings on my acoustic once a year. |

| ^ Yep.
I get a ton of life out of coated strings too. I do not break strings though, so no worries about having a set on for a short period before having to change them due to a broken string. As is, buying coated strings is no more expensive than buying the equivalent number of regular sets it would take to match the life. Actually, I think I'm saving money.
There is one sort of exception. The DR Sunbeams aren't coated, but seem to last a super long time. They seem to start looking dull as soon as most other strings, but the sound and good intonation stays around.
I have tried so many different acoustic strings it's riduculous. I'm even playing some D'addario XL Nickel electric strings on my main acoustic right now (11's with a wound G).
I am considering trying out some of these to see what they're all about. I am definitely a fan of titanium, so to have that used instead of steel in a guitar string is something I'd like to check out. I think I'd be most interested in the nickel strings they have. I could probably play on those for a few years...assuming I liked the tone and feel. heh.

(I break one about every month to two months on my electric) But anyway, when you're breaking strings like that, coated really are just a waste of money. I've never actually really thought about strings just getting plain old and worn out because I always break them long before that point.

| Elixer nanowebs were a good friend of my C850. The guitar sounded a bit dull in the high end with most brands, but the Elixers took care of that. Great sounding guitar for the price with them on it...

I've never actually really thought about strings just getting plain old and worn out because I always break them long before that point. | You might want to get your guitar checked out, check the nut/bridge for sharp points, depending on where they break... changing strings because they break seems like a waste of money to me, because breaking strings seems preventable. I hardly ever break strings. The only string that seems to break on me is the high octave G on my 12 string, but that's pretty understandable.
I gig regularly with my Strat, too, and only remember breaking strings on two occasions this past year. |
