If Jesus isn't God, then the Bible isn't true, and not only is there no salvation, there is no condemnation and nothing means anything. If our actions and deeds have no long term meaning and purpose, then we have no culpability for what we do in our lives.

It's pretty easy to see the appeal to not wanting to recognize an all powerful God that holds you responsible for your actions.

Because it's not exactly the easiest thing to believe? The idea of a human being God is a bizarre concept, especially to a modern mindset.
