Frankenstein

Wow, can't believe there isn't already a thread on this (from the past six years ). Had to read this book for English class, and I'll be honest: It intrigued me. Not always the most interesting stuff, but there weren't very many slow parts in the story, and it really got me thinking. Do you consider Victor evil? The Creature?

Wow I haven't read Frankenstein in so long - I can't even remember half of it. I remember feeling sorry for both creator and created though.

It's been years since I read it, but I loved it. I should read it again. If you like classic scary novels, you should read Turn of the Screw. It is so subtle, but it really messes with you.

Thanks for the recommendation! I'll check it out if I can .

I have to say that, while so many people said Frankenstein was dull and dry, I found it rather entertaining.

Personally, I felt quite sorry for both Victor and the Creature --- Victor because he was too irresponsible and selfish to prevent his ruin, and the Creature because he had no one to teach him right from wrong except books, which weren't exactly comprehensive. However, I feel less and less sorry for each of them as I study them. I find it difficult to feel sorry for the Creature because he commits so many atrocious acts of evil. One could argue that it's not his fault, but I disagree. He even states he knows what he's doing, even feeling remorse afterward... Yet he continues. Yes, he's alone... But does that excuse evil? As for Victor, he's such a pigheaded idiot at times, so absorbed in himself that he neglects people who love him and then the monster he creates. I also find it difficult to feel sorry for him, seeing as he practically brings this disaster upon himself by tampering with that which is hidden for a reason.

But hey... I've had to write a research paper, an essay, and do a test on this book, so maybe I'm overthinking it .

Wow! I remember reading this is 12th grade English and that's been four years. Man how time flies. All I remember is the teacher lingered on this book and the Pygmalian Effect (I hope I'm spelling that right). Regardless I didn't see either creature as evil. I thought Victor was misguided and had good intentions that didn't turn out quite right. His creation was simply something that needed personal guidance, but didn't get any and thus suffered the consequences because of it.

I just finished Frankenstein a couple weeks ago and have to say that it is simply amazing! Everything about it was incredible. At the end of the book I was near tears. The ending was so dramatic; it ripped my heart to shreds. I can't put my finger on it but something about it touched my soul.
The way Mary Shelley wrote the book was very creative. It is very detailed and when I read the pages it was like watching a movie. It was that vivid!
By far the best book I have ever read.
I wouldn't consider Victor evil. He started out with good intentions but those intentions led to destruction. I can't imagine the emotional struggle he went through when he was ordered by the monster to make another beast. The battle would be so intense.

I think I've read two books that were more dull and overall horribly written than this- Jane Eyre and Great Expectations. Yeah. I tried really hard to get into it, honest. Just wasn't happnening.

This negatively affected my tone in ways that I just can't describe.
Then, on a whim, a few years ago I wandered into a Bath and Body Works store at a local mall and picked up some of their gentle foaming anti-bacterial hand cleansers.
The difference in my guitar's sound is so wickedly improved that I no longer feel the need to buy a new amp or pedals or even strings...EVER!
So, it's my belief that tone is in the soap.
Thank you and goodnight.
