That'd be John James.

I can see why. After Pete "stepped up to the microphone" he could have done it. But by then it was probably kinda dated.

You're amazing. That's how.
It's Peter Furler we're talking about. He is pretty amazing IMO.

Going Public... still haven't decided what I think about it. Good songs, but I'm sorry, I just don't like John James' voice. There's nothing special or distinctive about it. Not when they had two really good singers available. Peter's voice, even though it's not as good in this album as it is in later albums, still is so captivating. And Phil sings so well too. I don't know if Jody was there during this time, but he has a darn good voice. I just don't know what John brings to the party?

Going Public is an album that grew on me over time. I'd say give it a bit more time. Of course, I still prefer Take Me To Your Leader, so I understand the sentiments.

Phil wasn't in the band when they recorded that one.

John co-founded the band. Honestly...I don't think Peter's voice is that much better than his.

Yup, they changed bassists about as much as they changed underwear back then...

Or even THAT much different. Same basic range/register, both have just a bit of rasp... they even look somewhat alike now that Pete waxes and uses eyeliner... They're almost interchangeable. Jody did not sing at all on any album until way later... does he now?

I can. Yeah, they're in the same range, but Peter's has a quality that is all his own. (Don't be dissin' on my boy, Peter.)

Jeff has a mic so he must sing at times. I know he does using that synth thingy.

Downloading Boyz Will Be Boyz, and Not Ashamed.

I dunno what I'm going to do when I run out of new newsboys stuff. They're supposed to be going back into the studio soon, but not soon enough.

In concert they used to switch off fairly haphazardly. They sounded practically identical. I will say, Peter has lost a vast ammount of accent since those days and Peter used to sound worse than John James live. (and I mean objectively, more off key notes, etc.)

Peter's voice has vastly improved over the years. Not that I ever got to see him live. Or will ever get to.
