I don't think Alton had anything to do with the original. As far as I know the only Food Network guy who was on the original was Bobby Flay.

Our bodies can't overdose on Vitamin A (our body transforms beta carotene to VA) from plants (like said carrots, it is stored in the skin...hence orange skin) but it can overdose on animal based Vitamin A in which livers especially those of Polar creatures are chock full of!
