Post Are you a Mentor?

Mentors are great to have. I am not one, but I have a Mentor who gives good guidance from a management point-of-view that allows me to look forward to positive happenings in the job world. However, you cannot exhaust the person's time for your beck and call, but must make sure that time spent together, is well worth the while.

Mentors can be in any area, work - school - church - any where.

I mentor Nurse Managers and Directors, and I am a leadership consultant for a church that is trying to develop their leaders.

At work I try to be as much as possible... I hope to become a field training officer soon, and that would help me along a lot.

At work I'm the unofficial trainer of all things computer. So I guess I'm sort of mentoring my co-workers.

As a first level manager, my first responsibility is to mentor those on my team.

Aside from that, I do like helping and teaching others, especially when it's the quirky wierd stuff that isn't usually known.

I'm very close to mentoring one of my team members into a promotion, but she will leave my team when she does get promoted, which is a bittersweet victory.

MtlMom, how do you prepare yourself for this? How do you stand up to such authority. Just a few points.

I like to think I am a mentor to some. Of course, I'm only 22 so my age is limited; however, I strive to have a positive impact on every person I meet.

I think we can all be mentors in some ways in different situations. I was a mentor to the younger kids on the performing arts team I was on last year, simply because I was older and had been through it before. There are many, many different situations in which we can be mentors.

I agree and each person's style is different.
