Metal distortion suggestion

I want a good metal distortion. I curently have a kustom coupe 36 tube amp. The distortion is nice but its just not metal enough. I think that a good metal pedal could sound nice through a clean tube amp. What pedals would you suggest to try out. I'm going for a as i lay dying, killswitch engage type tone.
Thanks

Boss DS-1 with keely mod? I'm not sure. Don't buy a metal zone or any pedal labeled metal unless you want really bad generic tone.

Honestly, it'd help you a lot more to have high gain amp.

Hadn't thought about that one.

Most people who play metal use a high gain amps and use amp distortion and do not rely on pedals.

Really, nothing is going to satisfy, MI Audio Tube Zone is pretty much the best for an American Metal tone. Crunch box works well for a british tone.

General Guitar Gadgets BSIAB2 has a pretty decent tone, as does a Keeley modded DS-1, the SEM is IMO better than the ultra, but it is easy to put both on a toggle.

This pedal has bleed through on bypass, but the tubeworks shred is another good option. It is truly extreme and a bit off kilter, but if you try it out, it has more brutality than any other pedal I played.

The Metal Zone was my first, and I hate it now.... however, the Boss MetalCore pedal is actually supposed to be quite good. I heard my other guitar player use it through his Behringer Vampire and it seriously improved his tone.

I have a Boss metal core, got it off eBay for $75 and I actually like it quite a bit. I tried it and the metal zone and for me at least there was no comparison. The metal zone sounded kind of like it lacked power so they pushed the gain higher instead of giving it more punch.

High gain amp is definitely a better way to go if you can, but unfortunately a good high gain amp is quite a bit more expensive than a decent pedal. Unfortunately I bought a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe thinking, who needs my amp to have good distortion? That's what pedals are for! So now at some point I plan on selling the fender, buying something with some good distortion, and then selling my distortion pedals.

But if you don't have enough money to buy an amp and you can't just save up, try the metal core. You should be able to find one to try pretty easily as they're in like every music store.

I had a modded up Metal Zone that was SICK! I think it was an Analogman mod...I'm not sure.

I know a high gain amp would be better but I need something to hold me over till I can get one in a year or two.
I'll definately try out the metal core. And has anyone tried the hardwire medal pedal?

Don't buy the Boss distortions unless you want a buzz saw.

I play a lot of metal, and I use the Hyde side of a Visual Sound Jekyll and Hyde. You can buy just that side of the pedal. It's called the Son Of Hyde. It's excellent. You also might want to try a Big Muff.

You can usually find Metalzones cheap, but if your looking for quality and not real concerned about flexibility invest in a good pre-amp and you'll get your distortion.

I've heard good things about the Blackstar line of pedals.... really good things. And they have tubes in them, and I'm a sucker for tubes. They're probably worth a look.

Hmm I just watched a test test of the blackstar distx and it sounds amazing. The only thing is the price but maby I can find one on ebay or somethihng.
HEy i just thought could I just use a tube screamer to boost the distortion channel on the amp to boost the gain and make it more metal.

Actually yeah, the Jekyll and Hyde pedal is really sweet. I recently got one of those too. I hadn't really tried metal on it cause I have the metal core, but I may have to fiddle with it... The only thing I don't like is it tries to cut out the white noise when you're not playing and it can end up making it sound choppy. I'm not sure if I just have a messed up pedal or if that's intentional but it's kind of annoying sometimes if you're not used to it.
