Chess: Danny vs. Skeeter

For the sake of brevity I'll take white on this one, unless you have any objections.

I want to know why white is always on the bottom.

My best guess would be because it would make the notation confusing. The letters at the bottom would go h - a from left to right, and the numbers would be reversed also. There's not really an ineffable rule declaring that the chess board must be presented that way, it just generally is for simplicity's sake.

Are the letter and numbers suppose to be color exclusive?

I think so. If they weren't (for example, if a1 was light instead of dark), the queens wouldn't start on their correct colors.

Probably a random, obscure racial thing.

I'm just screenshotting Chessmaster. Seems easier than cutting and pasting pieces all over the place.

Oh man, I was cutting and pasting...wait, I might have Chessmaster at home. But that means I wouldn't be able to play at work...cutting and pasting in Paint will have to do...

It would be pretty much impossible to do PBP* with Scrabble. It just doesn't lend itself well to the format. How are you supposed to know what tiles you have?

*Play-by-post
