for those in Marching band / drumline drum corps etc

I actually joined my highschools drumline last year and i played the drumset in pit
but this year i made it onto the snare and we just started practicing.
this may sound a little random but do you guys have any tips on physical exercise to manage on battery. i want to get in shape so i can last longer when practice on the drum with the harness and march around
it would help a lot

Just do it a lot. I know the pain of the drum sometimes gets in the way of the hands, but there isn't much you can do about it. It'll get better throughout the season. By the end of the season you will not even notice it, trust me. Just tough it out right now. I am sure there are some work outs or something that you can do to help, but pretty much the best thing you can do is just tough it out.

If the pain seems more than it should, check it out with a doctor. My friend's back is now forever messed up to bass four, but then again he had back problems to begin with. Just keep an eye on it if it seems worse than it should

Practice the way you play so you'll play the way your practice.
Play. Play. Play. Conditioning. Conditioning. Conditioning.

It's what it's all about.

Marching around the lot playing the same exercise for hours on end getting your hands beat thanks to the ridiculous tempos they sometimes reach. Basically also known as "beating" .

At the school I teach at we have a beatin' machine, basically a dolly with a long ranger and doctor strapped onto it haha.

Our school did the Rose Parade a couple years ago which I think was around 6 miles plus walking from and to the parking area which was probably another mile or so. We just marched more and more as it got close and then had to grin and bear it at the parade.
