I like how God does cool things like that. In fact God probably does a lot more cool things like that and we hardly ever notice.

But yeah, good to see you round these forums bringing your own "touch" to the forums.

I'm absolutely sure that's true.

I came in here to complain about a petty situation in my life, but after reflecting on what you just said, it doesn't seem so important now.

Funny how He does that sometimes. Almost like it's perfect timing.

Tonight was Volunteer Appreciation Night at the prison. It was also one of my regularly scheduled groups. I elected to go and hang out with my guys instead of the appreciation thingy.

"Andy" had written something he shared at the meeting. He had asked the guys to have me hang out after the movie because he wanted to come over and read it to me. It was very nice.

I'll have to ask him for a copy. If he'll give it to me, I'll share it here.

Thought for the day

One of the docs I work with has a saying:

"Easy to be a bad Doctor. Hard to be a good Doctor."

Insert your job title there. It's a good reminder.

very true, especially in regards to apathy and laziness.

Worship and Bible Study were tonight. Good stuff. Worship closed with a song about how God knows our names, He knows our thoughts, He knows everything about us and still loves us.

Then Bible Study was a study on the Teleological Argument (proof of God from Design.) We're watching the series called "I Don't Have Enough Faith To Be An Atheist" with Frank Turek. Dr. Turek was sharing the various instances of design and the Anthropic Principle. As I was watching this, I was just in awe of our Creator. Then we read Psalm 8. And I saw something I've never seen before. (I love it when that happens!)

Quote:
Ps 8:3-5

3 When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers,
The moon and the stars, which You have ordained,
4 What is man that You are mindful of him,
And the son of man that You visit him?
5 For You have made him a little lower than the angels,
And You have crowned him with glory and honor.
A little lower than the angels. But wait! There's a footnote! That word there is actually Elohim. We're not a little lower than angels.

We're a little lower than HIM.

Whoa. What a privilege.

I don't have the book yet. Just the video series. It's got like 10 or 12 hours of teaching.

Which reminds me, I need to come up with what we're going to do next. The guys seem to really like the DVD format moreso than books. It may have to do with reading issues that they don't want to admit to.

Any good teaching series/videos to recommend?

I work at a small rural hospital. My job is called "Unit Secretary" though there's nothing secretarial about it.

Among other things, I do admissions for Acute Care, Emergency, Long Term Care, and Outpatient Services. If we have a Code Blue (Respiratory or Cardiac arrest) or a Code Three (usually Trauma) I act as Scribe which means that I am writing down everything that happens. My notes are used by the doctor during the code (keeping track of meds, times etc) but they also eventually will be used by the nurse's in their charting. We're still totally Old School, no EMR for us yet.

We're a level three trauma, which means that we just stabilize patients and then send them to a higher level of care. In the nearly four years I've worked here, I've gotten pretty good at sending people out.

I've seen some interesting things, and some tragic things.

Tonight, we had something kind of cool, and kind of sad. A woman came in who was in labor. She has five children. She's giving this baby up for adoption.

I really admire what she's doing. It's a choice that was tough for her, but she knew she couldn't take care of another child. She could have had an abortion, but she decided to give this child to someone who wants it.

The woman who is going to get the baby was flying in, calling every hour or so to check how mom and baby are doing. She may just make it in time to see the birth. I hope she does. She and her husband are so excited about this baby.

The birth mother said it's both the hardest thing she's ever done, and the easiest. It's going to be an open adoption, so this child will know that both of his/her families love him/her.

That has to be one of the most loving things that a human being could ever do. To be able to admit that someone else could give your child a better life and just as much love as you could takes tremendous strength of character. God bless her.

James Dobson's Focus on the Family...totally kidding.

The Nooma Videos by Rob Bell are quite enjoyable and easy listening, yet challenging and engaging at the same time. I"d recommend those.

Rob Bell? Hmm... I don't know much about him. Except what I've read from the Emergent Haters. And they really don't like him.
