It is sub par to most vehicles, yes. but for a Saturn, that's not bad. and think about it, 13 years and 260,000kms until one alternator went ain't too shabby. I too ask a lot out of my vehicles, but according to the cost i paid to buy and maintain, and this one has come in at about $3000. less than $100 a month total expenses. i'm ok with that.

1000 watts will do that.....
163k miles is a lot.... They only warranty these cars for 5 years because they think they can only be relied on completely for that time frame. Thus getting a lot more out of it, is doing well in my opinion, then again, I don't know a ton about cars or anything so that opinion isn't worth tons...

You think if I can replace it with a 12" it will be able to handle that? I wanted a 12 but couldn't find a sealed box big enough for one anywhere....

of course not....because of my age, and the fact that i live in the most liberal conservative province in the country, i pay way too much for insurance. but that's a driving cost, not really a car cost(i consider it different, although it all is ultimately for the same thing).

I live in the same province... No need to lie about it. Insurance seems to be all over the place, I'm paying $1765, and I have buddies about the same age with just a tad more experience paying as low as $800-900 for the same coverage.

163k miles is a lot? That's just barely middle-aged. Then again, you're talking to a guy who has a vehicle that is known to go for well over 300k..... And it still just cost me around 4 grand. And making a car that is disposable at the end of 5 years is just completely unacceptable, in my opinion. Being 'cheap' isn't an excuse. Old VW bugs were 'cheap.' Most of those had paint jobs that would put anything produced today to shame....

So in your opinion, what's the best model for buying cheap and used with over 150,000 miles?

It doesn't sound that way. I think they don't understand insurance rates, and how premiums are set.

Yes, two similar drivers in a similar area can have similar records and be insured by the same company, but coverage levels and deductions can produce very different premiums.

not to mention marital status, age, credit history, additionally insured items, storage method (garage/etc), and many other things.

I never realized until mattslope broke it down one time how many factors there are. I'm just glad my insurance is so dang cheap now that i'm old and responsible

I guess I'm just lucky.

Maryland minumum coverage on my car would cost me, a 22 year old white male, about $400/6 months. And that's for a sports car folks. Much more powerful, yet it's cheaper to insure than my old civic.

So, I upped my coverage, and I'm paying the same amount I was before.
