| You've probably already formatted the computer, but if not, did you run you antivirus and spyware programs with Windows in Safe Mode? Sometimes you are able to catch things there that you would not in regular mode. The reason I think something may still be there is that you said your browser won't allow you to access certain spyware websites.

I might try that before dooming it to reformatting. |

The reason I suggest this, is it cleans the windows host file which could be damaged, and could be the problem even if all the spyware itself is gone.

I'll try that this weekend if I can. Unfortunately, though, the Trojan and virus both came back, so I guess I hadn't completely removed them like I'd hoped. I've got one or two more tactics in mind, but reformatting looks increasingly more likable. |

| Toshiba's number is 800-457-7777. They can send you a new recovery DVD. This way you won't run into problems with mismatched license keys between OEM and retail versions and all that mess.
Out of curiosity, what model laptop is it? |

| Find out what the virus/spyware/trojans are and then Google a removal method. Tools like VundoFix, SmitRem, Killbox, among others, may do the trick. Programs like Spybot and antivirus programs usually can't remove complex infections, even in Safe Mode.

Out of curiosity, what model laptop is it? | Thanks! I gave them a call, and they said a new disc would be about $25, so not bad; however, they also said my friend should have gotten a disc with his computer, so I asked him to look for it. P350D - S8828 is the model. Quote:

However, I haven't had much time with it since my initial attack, so I'm just waiting for another few-hour period when I can give it much pain. |

| What's the name of the virus/trojan? I have a few sources for removal that are within a forum I'm a member of (I've trained to do spyware and virus/trojan removal), so I might be able to suggest more things to try.
