Boss TR-2 Keeley Mod?

Anyone ever used a Keeley Modded TR-2? I was thinking about having my modded but didn't know if it was REALLY worth $55.

To my ears, other than the volume knob which can be used as a nice little boost, there isn't really a noticeable difference between a Keeley TR-2 and a TR-2 that's had the C4 cap snipped out. Cutting that C4 cap eliminates the volume drop and also reduces the muffled top-end issue. I did it myself in 5 minutes, it's literally just a matter of snipping out that one cap. So it really depends on why you want the pedal modded... if you want the boost, I run a relatively clean boosting BD-2 near the front of my signal path (for various purposes) which combined with the TR-2 does essentially the same thing as the boost on the Keeley mod. But if it's because of the volume dip and high-end loss, do some research on that C4 mod.

Yeah, I've read about the C4 mod. I'm a bit leery of just snipping out parts though. It's hard to believe that the pedal has an appendix.

I was skeptical at first, to say the least. But I had just bought it the same week when I read about it, so I figured if I really botched it I could return it to GuitarCenter for another one. It'll take you more time to open up the pedal and expose the circuit board than to snip the capacitor out. All you need is a decent pair of wire cutters.

So unless you really need the boost capability, my personally recommendation is that this particular Keeley isn't really worth the scratch. Don't get me wrong I love most of Keeley's mods, I'm just not sold on this one. It doesn't even fix the Depth dead zone issue.
