| NHL Offseason 2009 Free agency, draft, Olympic camp rosters... I thought hockey was supposed to be over.
I don't know much about Nazem Kadri, but the Leafs needed a forward with this pick. We will still need a superstar up front before we can compete in our division, but this is all part of the building process. And we finally got rid of the big lug Pavel Kubina, best known to Toronto fans for his 5 million dollar contract and costly giveaways. If Exelby can just play solid defense, I'll consider it an upgrade. And we signed Mike freaking Komisarek! I absolutely loved this guy, even when he was on the Canadiens. He's big and physical, and most importantly, his arrival allows Luke Schenn to drop down to the second pairing. I like Schenn, but no rookie defenseman(or sophomore defenseman for that matter) should be asked to shut down opposing teams' top lines. We still need to add a top-six forward to replace Antropov though.
The biggest story in free agency is obviously Marian Hossa signing what I believe is the second-longest contract in NHL history(correct me if I'm wrong). Shrewd move by the Hawks - they replaced Havlat with a more complete player. You can throw out Hossa's terrible Finals - there is no way that will happen two years in a row to a player of his caliber.
Havlat to Chicago, Gaborik to New York, Khabibulin to Edmonton, Gomez to Montreal... there are just too many deals to talk about.
