Questins from the new guy.

First of all I just want to say that I love to worship. I was told to lead worship this coming Sunday. I've never actually done it. I'm usually the back up vocalist and guitarist. The thing I want to ask is the whole preparation process and what you guyz do in your churches. Our church worship team is made of 2 or sometimes 3 people and that is including the instrumentalists.
Another thing is the whole song selection process. I find that i'm a huge Hillsong fan, however, the congregation may not know the songs that i know and love and it cant be just the same songs every week, right. I need help. How do you guyz introduce songs in your church?:

If you were told to lead worship then just do what you want. If they don't like it then they won't "told" you anymore. All seriousness aside, if it were me, I'd do what ever I felt most comfortable doing (especially if I've never done it before). I'm sure that someone will like it. If only one person likes it then it was worth the effort. I don't lead worship, but when I sing, I sing what I want to sing. I've heard the Hillsong is pretty good too.

Congregations are called "sheep" for a reason. They don't like change and get grumpy if they're herded too aggressively. This will cause excess bleating and perhaps stubbornness.

By all means you should try to get them to sing one of your favorites. One new song per service is enough unless you want to have your flock wandering over somewhere else to munch a bit of grass while generally ignoring you.

The way we introduce songs in our church by showing the lyrics up on the wall or screen.
Generally we start with something cheerful and easy to sing like(This the Day), then build into a song that gets the heart pumping like(Days of Elijah) and end with something prayerful like(Agnus Dei). Keep in mind you are leading the church into worship. It's not about performing songs that you like.

We'll often introduce new songs by performing them once for the congregation, maybe as a call to worship or an offertory. Then the following week we'll put the song into our congregational song set. That way they will have heard it once before they try singing it.

Change is good, but take your time. You know how to boil a frog, right?
