And yes everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but the question i'm asking here is that is all this hate a real reason to make fun of them? LIke i mean i don't get why all this overadveritsement and stuff like that be a real reason to make fun of them? Like I srsly hate stryper with a passion! like i can't stand their music, clothes, hair, and everything like that i seriously can't, but i mean i don't go make fun of them and AGAIN i'm definantly not saying that people should stop making fun of the jonas brothers or they have to be like me and not make fun of them or anything like that, i really respect everyone's opinon, i just want to know WHY everybody makes fun of them? | I can't stand the corporate crap they are the face of. That said, I am nobody's hippie and I know tons of people in the actual music industry right now and have business contacts with some radio rock bands.
They are to me, the epitome of hype and pre-pubescent exploitation. I never have given them a listen. I can nearly guarantee I would not be a fan as I have heard enough of their basic subtype to know that I am about as far from the target demographic, and the fact that they have a target demographic in the sense that they do is irksome as well.
I tend to enjoy darker, technical music, ranging from old school metal to classical, but enjoying a lot of punk and other such things.
Truth is, why do you care who likes the music you like? I don't care if you like Megadeth, Tourniquet, Stryper, Rachmaninoff, Bach, Tchaikovsky, The Pogues, etc. If music is really interesting to you, it should be enough that you like it.
I dearly love Stryper, I think the silly black and yellow and atrocious hair are funny, but I have always loved the music, and I fully understand that you do not, and you know what... I don't care that you don't. You don't. I don't like mass produced, corporate kiddie rock on principle, as well as having heard enough bubblegum pop-rock to know that it is not worth my time as I will not.
Now if I was to be pointed to a fine bluegrass or celtic band, I would happily check it out. I generally like those genres.
So enjoy your Jonas Brothers, and I will enjoy my hundreds of albums of various artists (which you probably would not like), and we will both go on enjoying music.

| The reason I don't like the Jonas Brothers, is because the majority of their songs are poorly written. They are unoriginal. Hanson, is a much better band than the Jonas Brother's could ever hope to be. The Hanson's songs are by far better written and for the most part are not the cookie cutter pop tween song you hear.
The Backstreet Boys, O-Town, 98 Degrees, N SYNC, LFO, Westlife, and all the other reject knock off boy bands in late 90's- mid 2000's were also heavily made fun of for the same reasons. There was no originality in the lyrics or music or even "dance" moves.
I also think it is music snobs who don't like to follow the current trend or just like a popular band, because they are popular. There are always going to be people who hate the current popular musical trend or artist because they are too mainstream or popular. Regardless, don't let other's opinion of a band you like change your mind. If you like the Jonas Brothers, then like them, but don't expect everyone else to also feel the same way. Why does it matter if people don't like the Jonas Brothers? People all like different music for different reasons. For instance, I love KISS and AC/DC, but I know there are a LOT of people out there who hate them. I don't ask why cause frankly their tastes and opinions of music don't really mean much to my personal life. So what if they don't like them? It's not like them not liking AC/DC is going to affect my ability to listen to them. People are going to make fun of the Jonas Brothers for all sorts of reasons, and some may not make sense to you, but that's their prerogative. Quit worrying about the people who hate them and focus on your own musical tastes and preferences. |

| I come from the Partridge Family and Osmond Brothers generation. I remember getting so mad at my older brother (10 years older) and cousins for making fun of them. I think perhaps that as people grow out of that genre (the bubblegum pop sound) they develop an aversion to it.
This doesn't make it okay, I just thought I'd share that it isn't really about the Jonas Brothers at all. I survived Hawk Nelson about 5 years ago with Leighanna. That was a long year.
God bless Jon Foreman. |

| It's something that's a lot bigger than the Jonas Brothers, Caitlynn. People have been making fun of bands that they consider "e>pic fail" or whatever since the dawn of recorded music.
I think the reason behind it is that people really like music, and they really like being right. They have their favorite bands that they will defend, and then there's other bands that they aren't as fond of that they love to mock. And then, of course, since music is so important to people, those of us who are the fans of the less popular band end up feeling pretty hurt by it.
I know how you feel. I was a huge fan of Hawk Nelson when I first joined CGR, and the more established members got after me about it for quite a while. Then I discovered other bands, got tired of Hawk Nelson, and people usually don't make fun of my taste in music anymore. And I've learned to ignore the ones that do.
The Jonas Brothers get it even worse, though, because of the Disney Channel association. And yeah, we shouldn't mock them just because of that, but it's an easy joke to make. And yeah, basically anything that's popular with 8-14-year-old girls is going to be an easy and popular target for criticism by anyone male or over the age of 14. I shouldn't mock it, but I do.
I've heard a little bit from the Jonas Brothers. I don't particularly care for them, and it does amaze me how they manage to get their faces plastered on so much merchandise every time I walk into WalMart. But I kind of think every generation of teenage girls needs that band to latch onto, and outgrow later on. I don't like them, but I think it's good that you do. |

#28 | | Registered User | I guess it's not about people making fun of the jonas brothers but that they are making fun of me. I try soooooooo hard to ignore it when like people make fun of me for liking the jonas brothers (and a whole lot of other bands for that matter) but sometimes it makes me feel horrible like even though people are telling me that it's good that i like them, i still feel super stupid for liking them because of what other people think and when people make fun of them then i guess it just feels like people are making fun of me (i always feel that way with blonde jokes too, like i try really hard not to feel that way but sometimes i can't help it) and i dunno and then i feel stupid for doing something like this where i try to make myself feel better but then it comes back and hits me in the face so then i feel more stupid for liking the jonas brothers and making a thread like this |

My friends tease me constantly because I am 27 years old and LOVE New Kids on the Block and The Backstreet Boys. Do I let it bother me? No. Who cares if they don't like the same kind of music I do? Just learn to not care what other people say about your taste in music. Like anything else, you are a unique person with unique tastes in movies, tv, music, books, what have you. You are that way for a reason. Embrace the things that make you unique. Don't let other people's views or opinions about a group affect you. I can guarantee that when I make fun of the Jonas Brothers, I am in fact only making fun of the Jonas Brothers. I know there are people out there who like them and that's fine. I'm not trying to make anyone quit listening to a group or artist they like. I am only stating my opinion about music. When you learn to accept the fact that people who make fun of an artist you like are not necessarily making fun of you as a person, you'll be much better off. |

| There are several reasons.
#1. Their style is so over the top. It consists of so much unnecessary crap and random exclamations it's sickening.
#2. pretty much the overexposure/hype everybody else has mentioned and their primary fanbase. The one dating Mily Cyrus didn't hurt either. As if that wasn't typical hollywood false hype just to get attention as all hollywood relationships are...
#3. Their lyrics are beyond dumb. Cliche'd, hackneyed, dumb, unintelligent, boring, childish, naive... all words I'd use to describe their lyrics.
#4. Most of the jokes come from an episode of South Park which pointed out the fact that they are being exploited by Disney to sell sex to young girls. And it seems obviously true, which is funny, because they're too dumb to notice it. They wear purity rings (they REALLY DO), yet they sing songs like "Burning up" which brings me to #5...
#5. I am almost 400% positive that even if they get credit for it, they don't write their own music which makes them basically nothing more than untalented patsies for whoever they let write for them and also meaning they have NO integrity.
There, 5 honest reasons.
A lot of the jokes in the other thread were from the South Park episode, btw, I didn't see any of them targeting you personally.
