so I got the antenna I mentioned earlier mounted on my south facing corner of my house and now I get all the local channels in crystal clear HD! Signal is absolutely fantastic. I've already canceled my cable.

I hooked up my parents aerial antenna to an amplifier to the digital box. and they went from 6 channels without the box to 43 with it. They now pick up channels from Toledo, Detroit, Ft. Wayne, Windsor, ON, and even Columbus, Ohio. Apparently they get RTN (Retro Television Network) and my dad is in tv heaven.

This reminded me to try out my home-made DTV antenna. I made it a few months before the transition and it didn't really work that well, but now that the analog channels are out of the way hopefully it'll pick up more stuff.

If you don't mind, what are the 43 channels they're getting? I would definately consider not getting cable/satellite if the 43 channels were channels I would watch.

They pick up detroit, toledo, and ft. wayne abc cbs,, nbc, fox, and the cw. = 31

All three abc's, cbs's, nbc's, have three channels.

They pick up 2 different christian channels=2

three different area pbs's with 4 channels each.=12

So I guess it's 44 channels.

But all of the various local channels have other channels within them.

Such as the Toledo NBC station has Retro Tv Network on it's second channel, which is like TvLand, but with more obscure shows like Airwolf, Quincy ME, and shows like that.
And there are now like 15 different local weather channels running 24/7.

When it's REALLY cloudy out, we can get anywhere from 50-60 channels, and we get the Urban Television Network which shows stuff like Martin, Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Good Times, The Jeffersons, Jamie Foxx Show.

But we do have a very large aerial antenna, so we tend to pick up canadian channels as well. So we get some weird shows from Windsor sometimes.

It really depends on the weather what channels you get, but the main 43 channels are pretty stable. And my dad likes to watch a bit of tv after eating lunch, and the Ft. Wayne NBC's 2nd station plays Mash right after lunch, so he gets to watch that, or Airwolf on the Toledo NBC"s 2nd channel.

Wow, that's pretty phenomenal. The mid-west, with all its flatness. I can get about 10 channels, all quite weakly. But I have a very small antenna.
