Duck duck goose. Get a few sixth graders to start it and it becomes cool. Join in and play yourself...

Also, if you have any (and enough) toy light-sabers on hand, then something along the lines of a lightsaber freeze tag game except with an even number of kids on each team. |

| bullrush.
get all the kids to stand at one end of the yard. one kid in the middle calls out individual kids, those kids then try run to the other end of the yard withought being tackled. if they make it they yell "bullrush" and everyone else tries to run to the end of the yard. upon being captured any kid joins in with the one in the middle. winner is last kid left.
may cause injury

Get them to split up into teams, give each person a random phrase and each team a scenario. From there, they have to make a little skit out of the scenario that INCLUDES the phrase each team mate is given.
For example:
PHRASE: "I wish I was a real boy."
SCENARIO: Building a sandcastle.
The team member with that phrase HAS to say it at some stage while they perform the building of the sandcastle. If there are 3 members to each team, they need to have all 3 phrases said at some stage throughout the skit. No matter how random! This game is extremely hilarious! I'm sure any age could play and enjoy it.
Another game is: You make up a scenario and each team needs to split up. So say you have a four person team, so you split them into two. Now one part of the team needs to act out the scenario while speaking a different language (doesn't have to be a real one - they just make a noise) and the other two need to interpret what they think is being said. This is also fun! :-)
I have other ideas if those interest you! :-) |

| Capture the flag.
Or an invention I made up was musical carpets. It's played like musical chairs only you lay down pieces of old carpet or rugs. You can put like four of them fairly far apart and after each turn simply fold one or more into a smaller area. You can set the variations on how to be safe. We usually used the rule that your foot had to be flat on the carpet.

| Duck duck goose is awesome, but make it drip-drip-drop...the tagger walks around with bottle of water, drips a little water on everyones head and then the "goose" gets more water than everyone else...I remember playing this in 5th/6th grade and it was a lot of fun, as long as people are okay with getting a little wet.
I still think the game where everyone gets a partner and a water ballon and the two toss it back and forth, taking a step back each toss is a lot of fun (playing until the water balloon breaks).
Water balloon fights were always a blast at that age... (still are)
