| Yay! More monitoring! http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programme...ou/8064333.stm
Just thought I would bring this to everyones attention! Lets not get into another argument about whether innocent people have anything to worry about, or whether it is right or wrong....just wanted to fill everybody in on it!
All I can say is, holy crap, I'm glad this (currently) doesn't fly in Canada. |

| When a government has enough money to do something like this, the people are paying too much in taxes. |

If that cop then tagged my car, and the next time I got pulled over I was asked a series of questions, any one of which if I didnt answer or possibly didnt answer satisfactorilly, would get me sent to jail, then yeah.

Are teh cameras asking you questions and then sending you to the joint? |

However, in order to do what these cameras are doing, you'd need at least one officer on every street corner. And when you have police officers tracking the movements of every citizen, as well as 'tagging' cars that simply head down the wrong street at the wrong time, and then later interrogate the driver, I'd call that occupation. |

Is there a database of where everyone went that's stored and mined? |

Did you read the article?
A guys car was tagged by this system because of a place he visited, and then not long afterwards was stopped by a cop and basically interrogated under the threat of being sent to jail

| look at history Peple have been guilty by association all through history, if you were accused of being a commmie in the 50's you had to prove you were not. Peter was accused of being with Jesus, he denied it. The bad news is the USA holds more people in prison than ANY nation on the planet. The Declaration of independence states the danger of large standing armies but what do we have today? |

BOLO and APB requests. The camera, in that instance, was only more efficient; it didn't actually do anything different than could have been done without them.
If we are going to object: make sure it's the right part we object to. |

| I gotta side with Jerry on this one (although I suppose I often do). The way you guys are talking, you'd think they were putting cameras in our homes.
Many cities have cameras at stop lights to catch red light runners. Is this objectionable?
Truth is, as soon as you step foot on public property, you surrender certain rights. For example, as a photographer, I have every right to take a photo of you while you're on public property. Sure, it's courteous to ask first or at least after, but the law is on my side regardless. The only difference here is that it's the police taking your photo for the purpose of doing the exact things they'd do if they were physically watching you.
Once they start monitoring me in my home, I'll join in screaming "POLICE STATE!!!!" |

| I think I generally agree on this one. If a cop was there, and saw the guy doing what he was doing, the cop would have done basically the same thing. The camera just made it easier.
