Single-Transferable Vote (STV) vs. First Past the Post (FPTP)

So British Columbia is having a referendum - tomorrow - on whether to change our electoral system from First Past the Post to Single-Transferable Vote.

I'm inclined to go with STV from what I've read of it, for one, because under the current system votes are 'wasted' and people's votes basically don't count in a riding/electorate if the other majority (or even a significant minority) elected someone else.

I still haven't made up my mind. (Lawl. I'm a horrible contributor to the democratic process)

if anyone reads this before I go to the polls tomorrow and knows anything about this, could you give me the run-down on what exactly the pros and cons of each system are?

Thanks

I decided not to vote in this Provincial election, because in good conscience I couldn't - I didn't know enough about the parties and their platforms, or the referendum.

However, an explanation of this would still be helpful.
