I prefer acrylics. I never got any good with watercolors. Oils, I can do, but like so many others have said, they're messy and they take forever to dry. I once did an oil painting 5" by 8" and it took 6 weeks to dry completely! Too long! The other thing I love about acrylics (besides drying quickly) is that depsite fast-drying, I can blend them so much easier. Different oil colors seem to repel each other! I'd like to learn how to handle them better, but until I can take a class or something, I'll stick with acrylics. I just think they're great.

I like acrylics because they dry fast, but on the other hand, I hate acrylics because they dry fast. Oil has a very nice texture, although I haven't played with it very much. So far I've only done a black and white painting which is currently unfinished. I watch some people in my painting class work with oils and I am amazed... there's a lot to know about oil, more than acrylics. It can get annoying waiting for something to dry.

But my favorite is probably watercolor. I love the simplicity, the fact that you can still save colors even when they dry, and the way you can softly layer things. Most people agree that watercolor is "my" medium, although I haven't really done very many watercolors. In high school I got very frustrated with it and for about a year after high school everything I did in watercolor stunk until I did a self portrait. I haven't tried another watercolor since but I've been thinking about it.

I also really like liquid acrylics for design work. I guess I just like the movement of thinner paint -- it's so graceful. I use Magic Color Speedry. It's bomb diggity. It also looks nice coupled with ink -- in pens or bottles (india ink).

Here are some examples of what I've done with each medium:

1. acrylic
2. oil (unfinished)
3. watercolor
4. liquid acrylic & ink

Oh gosh, I haven't painted in so long. I never could get a hang of heavier paints though. Watercolours came naturally to me. I could paint fields of flowers and such in watercolours but put acrylic in my hand and you'd just get a mess.

I've been painting for a grand total of two days, and I've been using acrylics on multimedia paper. Fun. I like them.

Oh and I'm right handed, that's probably why my painting looks like dookie.
