Wayne Simien retires...goes into full time ministry

I know many of you might not know Wayne as much as a Jayhawk basketball fan like me, but he is a really classy guy. He didn't play professionally very long, but long enough to earn some money and now has decided to retire and pursue ministry through the Called to Greatness program.

His website is; www.iamctg.org

Young people (actually everyone) needs more role models like Mr. Simien.

Way to go Wayne!

I always like him. I'm a die-hard UNC fan but have always had love for KU. I remember watching his last game in college when they got beat by Bucknell in the NCAA Tourney. I felt so bad for that team. Simien had a chance to win that one at the end and the shot wouldn't go down.

He was drafted in the first round 2005 by Miami, they picked up his option in 06, then due to injuries and lack of playing time, bounced around the NBA. The last year he played in Spain. Basketball pays pretty good money in Europe, and he could've cashed in for several more years, but heard a more important calling.

He met Roy Williams when he was a junior-high player here in Kansas, attending a basketball camp. Roy almost always recruits classy individuals, and Wayne has certainly shown class.
