Economy

I've just been thinking this recession is apparently so bad in the states, but maybe one of the reasons I can barely grasp it, is that we just aren't feeling it.

Alberta has lost like 15,000 jobs or something, but what does that mean, when we have been above full employment for like three years? Now we only only have regular unemployment? I have a friend going home to Ontario for the summer, who was offered 3 summer jobs here, if she chose to stay instead.

Ontario may be doing less good (although I'm fairly Alberta-centric so I don't really care as much) but it can't be that bad either.

And my prof told me a while ago that Saskatchewan made the news for having the only growing economy in the entire developed world. Pretty insane. I guess uranium and potash has been really good to them.

We've been really feeling it in Southern Ontario. In my county, trying to get a job is extremely difficult. The only reason why I've been sticking out my horrible job is because there's nowhere to work.

I'm in SW Ontario as well. At the hotel I work in, we've been doing quite well until a few weeks ago. And we've only kind of evened out lately. But overall in my town, I would say that we have a job shortage. I live close to the chemical valley in Sarnia and we've had a lot of layoffs in there. I think that and all the automotive layoffs are the leading reason for Ontario's "feeling the hurt"

Saskatchewan is doing really well. I'm rather lucky to be here right now, in fact, housing can't even keep up. The vacancy rate in Saskatoon is less than 1% right now, and thats where i'm planning on moving in the fall, so hopefully housing gets the move on to keep up with the new flow of unemployed Canadians.

"There is no peace on earth," I said,

Of peace on earth, good will to men."

Then pealed the bells more loud and deep:

The wrong shall fail, the right prevail
With peace on earth, good will to men.”
