Two games in the past two days... I pitched in both of them. I went four innings yesterday and two in relief today. I actually pitched better today. We lost both games, the first by three runs and tonight's by one. We were down 9-6 with two outs and the bases loaded when I came up tonight. 1-1 fastball... lined over the second baseman's head! Felt so good. Our 3-hole hitter couldn't pick me up though, so we lost 9-8. Oh well it was a good game. I stole four bases, two runs, two RBI's. I'm 5-for-9 on the season now with a couple of walks and I've reached twice on errors. I'm my team's No. 1 pitcher, keeping the team close at least. I tore all the skin off my shin when I slid into second and collided with the shortstop today - my first battle wound of the year!

I'm so happy the Penguins won last night - now I get to watch at least part of the game Friday night. Please Sidney please.

Thought of the day:

Why don't I ever post about anything other than sports?

I have resolved to not mention sports in this post...

I had the opportunity this week to see a deer in one of the vineyards I was working at. It was eating grass just outside the vineyard. I was putting up traps for a kind of moth that eats grapes in the outside row, so I was walking towards it. After a while it looked up. Rather than keep going and scare it off, I stopped. When it started eating again I'd move a little more. I kept this up for about fifteen minutes before it decided it wanted to find out what I was. It actually started walking up one of the rows about seven rows over from me. It would stop every once in a while to look at me, then keep walking towards me in its row. After a while I decided I had to keep moving, so I started walking. Surprisingly, the doe didn't move. It just kept staring at me as I walked towards and then past it. I was less than forty feet away from it and it didn't move a muscle. It was a truly amazing thing to see that close up. I made nearly a half-circle around it before it took off into the woods it had came from. This all leads into my...

Thought of the day:

It is a ridiculously beautiful world we live in. I know we talk about this all the time, about how we miss the beauty of the earth because we're too caught up in our busyness, but it's worth repeating because it's true. I love blue skies and starry nights and maple trees and deer that walk towards me instead of away from me. Take the time today or tomorrow or whenever you read this to take a look at the amazing place God has simply given to us with no strings attached.

Glad I can talk about sports again

PITTSBURGH...
I was watching with a friend and we were hitting the roof when Talbot scored those goals. Fleury's last-second save on Lidstrom... everything was great. Malkin shouldn't have gotten the Conn Smythe but who cares when you're lifting the Cup at the end of it?

My baseball team was crushed last night. We didn't score a run, and I don't think we had a base hit. I had two walks and my first strikeout of the year. I pitched four innings, allowing 6 runs I think, two of them earned. My team's defense is atrocious, even for this league. We had a "practice" this morning - 6 guys showed. Unbelievable. How are they going to get better? I'm out there whenever I can, practicing my pitching, hitting, throwing, whatever. It all needs work, all the time.

I went to see UP today with some friends - in 3D! The 3D really did nothing for the movie except make it more expensive, but oh well. I had a good time with some people I hadn't seen in a while. And the movie was quite good. The dogs with the collars that allow them to speak are absolutely hilarious. Go see it if you get a chance, it's up there with the best of Pixar's films. It even has a deep theme of love that the old guy has for his wife... us guys need to take pointers from him. All the girls in the audience were awwwwwing all over the place.

Thought of the day:

Why don't I go to bed on time - ever?

Tonight's game was rained out along with paintball. I watched the NHL awards instead. In Tuesday's game my coach decided to try something different and let one of my teammates pitch the first two innings, and then I threw the last four. Didn't work - we're now 0-6 on the year. I went 3-for-4 with two RBI's and two runs scored though. My curveball got me five grounders right back to the mound - it was really biting hard. Tomorrow's my last day of work for the week and then I have a weekend of glorious nothing. Probably a good time to start working on the duet I wrote the other day for a friend. It's not great lyrically, but the point of duets are the music, not the words.

I got involved in Theology this week... not my forte(but that is... haha oh Kia commercials). I think I'm going to have to pull out soon before I get run over by the intellectuals.

Thought of the day:

Why do I get involved in these discussions when I can't even think my thoughts in a coherent manner, let alone write them on the Internet?

I just got back from Musicfest in Belleville - Blue Rodeo, Theory of a Deadman, Hedley, and Our Lady Peace were all playing. Our Lady Peace was by far the best of the four.

Thought of the day:

What motivates a woman to throw her bra at the lead singer of a terrible band like Hedley?

It has been a long time... my computer is dead and I've hooked up my sister's for now.

My baseball team is 0-9 now. I played catcher for the first time on Tuesday though and that was a lot of fun. My thumb is still recovering. I'm still hitting over .500 with an OBP over .600, which were my pre-season goals. I'm still hoping for that elusive homer at our cozy little home field though. I have a line-drive swing and the only way a ball's going to go out is if I get a high pitch and line it out.

I think I went on the first date of my life on Wednesday - I'm still trying to sort it out. I have a friend who is leaving to go to India until late August, and she wanted to "hang out" on Wednesday, so I said sure. We went roller blading in the park and then met some people for fireworks. I didn't twice about it until my best friend told me the next day that he had been our "relationship counsellor" on MSN afterwards. Oh dear...

Plenty of excitement anyways.

Thought of the day:
Why is it so much fun to clean the house to surprise your parents, and so annoying to do it when they're at home?

1-for-4 with a walk, two RBI's and two runs... my team won! For the first time this year, we scored more runs in seven innings than the other team. We are now officially 1-9. WOOOOOOOOO TEAM!

One can only hope tomorrow's game will go half as well. I didn't actually even think we would be able to play - the weather around us was terrible, absolutely pouring rain, but when we got there it was sunny and dry. We have had unbelievably unsettled weather this week.

Thought of the day:

Why do I feel good about a 1-for-4 day only when the single hit came in my last at-bat? There must be some deep psychological reason here...

4 plate appearances, three walks, one single, and one strikeout... wait.

I was walked on four pitches my second time up and swung my bat forward to throw it back towards the dugout. The players on the other team appealed to the bases umpire, who called me out(I had a 3-2 count going at the time). I know the guy, and he was certifiably high on weed while umpiring the game. It made me angry, but it's kind of hard to argue with an umpire who's halfway to the moon.

I was going to go to the drive-in theater yesterday night, but that didn't work out(It poured and thundered). We had a party at my friends house instead and watched Anchorman - one of my favourite comedies of all time. I had a good beer with my friend and his uncle, we played some NHL 2006 on my old Xbox, and it was all around a good time.

I start profession of faith classes on Thursday, even though I'm not sure I'm ready. Prayers on this score would be greatly appreciated.

Thought of the day:

Why do I never have anything good to say when people ask me the deep questions? I shrug, spit out a three-syllable answer, and go back to my shell. I swear I'm more intelligent than I seem.

ANGER...

0-for-2 with a strikeout(on a pitch six inches outside I might add), picked off when I reached on an error(actually safe I might add), threw the ball into the dirt at the first baseman's feet with two out and a runner on third to score the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh.

Thought of the day:

Whoever thought that baseball should be played twice a week instead of once a week was brilliant. This way I only have to stew about this one until Wednesday night.

3-for-4 with 3 RBI's and two runs on Tuesday, 2-for-4 with two RBI's and a run(stole home) last night. Feels good, feels good! My pitching has never been better, my sinker gets grounders almost as well as my curve now, and I can amp it up to blow my fastball past most batters after they see my curve. This year has easily been my best in baseball, but now it's wrapping up. For some reason we end in the beginning of August...

Started profession of faith classes tonight at my church(Christian Reformed). It was surprisingly interesting - we talked about some deep stuff and what it means to be Reformed(not CRC, just Reformed). I enjoyed my time, but now I have to do some reading.

Also, I agreed to record the tenor part for the performing arts group I was a part of last year, and that's turning into a nightmare. All we have is an instrumental track to sing along to, and I cannot get the rhythm at all for one song. Need a little help here, God...

Thought of the day:

Why is it that when my life is just getting under control I agree to do seven other things and find myself with no time all over again?

Pool party today at a friend's house... I love the water. And the people. There are so many hilarious people in this world. Or else I just know most of them.

The recording business is progressing better now. I still have almost no time to prepare, but I don't have to record half as much as I thought I did, and I'm getting closer to having it all together. Thanks, God...

Thought of the day:

Why does God care about my little recording thing for a random performing arts team in a random small city in the smallest big country in the world?

Because to God it's not "little, random, or small" to God. His perspective is perfect.

True enough.

I like Sundays. Quiet, calm, and relaxed. Our church had a ground-breaking ceremony after the morning service(I played drums ) and we had a BBQ lunch together. Then my family watched The Pink Panther 2, with Steve Martin. Those movies are so funny. I had a nap, went to evening service, played Madden 06 with my brother in law, and here I am wrapping up the day with CGR.

Thought of the day:

Why don't I ever start the day with CGR?

We're expanding the building because our church is growing

2-for-3 with 2 RBI's and a run last night. I'm pitching tonight... can't wait.
