it's true that there aren't many people like that, which is what makes the ones who are so valuable. also, even the most true friends will fail you on occasion. it's part of being human. so, an important thing to remember is that the people who are worth fighting for are not perfect, and there will be times when you will feel abandoned by them, but they are still worth keeping and they will prove to be the truest and most loyal people in the end. every friendship has its ups and downs, but I think (this is true for my life, at least) that you will know who your real friends are, even in the downs and the fall-throughs.

Hey man...sorry I missed your call the other night. I'll give you a call this evening and explain. Sorry to hear things are going rough. You're always welcome to come up here and stay if you need to just unplug for a bit.

Haha for some reason the other day, the memory of us all sitting in Danny and Sonny's room, harassing Daniel Martin or whatever (remember that hulking, racist dumb ****) threw his can in through the window and nailed the greatest deep 3 pt. shot in Danny's garbage can?

Its been a good minute since I've posted here. I've been going through some things. LOL wow I really hate the title of this thread. Its so insanely high brown and esoteric. I think I have the dumbest journal title in this entire board although admittedly its gotta be better than something akin to "Adam Likes Cheese" or something like that.

I really appreciate that man. If circumstances would allow, I'd take you up on the offer, but alas they do not. Such is life.

Yeah I remember Daniel. Crazy guy, crazy crazy guy. We threw animal crackers at him, which was fun. Dude he reminds me of that cave troll thing in Lord of the Rings. Not that I actually care about that film, lol.

BTW I spoke to Jeremiah the other night. It was awesome talking to him again.

When I get off work I'm going to go home and watch Wall Street. Did you all know that they're making a sequel called Money Never Sleeps? Starring Douglas of course and also Shia La-Bouf.

Hola amigo.

I have to call you here, soon. A bunch of stuff has been going on up here too. I wouldn't sweat the thread title.

Haha! Cave troll is spot on. How has Jeremiah been? I haven't talked to him in probably 4-6 months.

I'll have to check Money Never Sleeps out...I never saw Wall Street. How did you like it? Maybe I'll go out and rent that tonight.

Hey Nate! Jeremiah is doing great. Things are going great with his job as he has been given more responsibility in the company, which is cool. Danny and my brother Jason have kind of acted like an ass recently and he got pissed, understandably so. But the good thing of that whole situation is that he got to meet the lead singer of Guided By Voices, Robert Pollard while attending a String Cheese Incident concert! (remember when we saw them open for The Weakerthans? That was one of my coolest concert experiences ever). I'll tell you about the surrounding details later, lol.

Check out Wall Street. Definitely an interesting film and Michael Douglas' performance was awesome. It made me think a lot about our economy and capitalism in general.

Over the past few months I've begun to believe that American's idea of capitalism needs to be reconceptualized. I believe a free market needs to exist, but to what extent and to what cost? With that said I am by no means an economic expert and I'd like to keep an open mind. Anyway, I can't wait for the sequel.

Steve McNair's dead and well that really, really sucks. McNair and that Titans team way back then was what got me into the NFL in the first place. He was a great player and a great man.

I can't communicate in any meaningful way on this message board how tragic it is that he and the woman he was with just get shot up in downtown Nashville. Just like that. Death is the most indiscriminate force in the physical world- it will take anyone, anytime, anyplace. Just like that.

Dude, the recent loss of a good friend who was just a year older than me and that has really startled me. Life is so arbitrary and meaningless in the sense that all of your momentum and endeavors don't really matter in the big scheme of things. Steve McNair was the man.

I've said before that I'm blown away by how many famous people have died over the past week. Just a reminder of how fragile life is.

Hey, Adam, have you gotten to see Quantum of Solace yet? I sat down and watched it again today, and caught a few more things I hadn't noticed before. I'm gonna come and say that I firmly believe QOS has the sharpest, tightest script seen in a Bond film since, at the very least, the first four Connery films, if not ever. There is so much subtlety in the story, characters, and acting that, IMO, it eclipses Casino Royale.

Yeah actually a couple weeks ago I watched Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace back to back. I like Casino Royale more at this point but Quantum seems like a film I need to watch a couple more times to catch the subtleties, as you are mentioning. The villains in this new incarnation of Bond are SO much better than most in the other Bond films.

I've also heard that Craig is I think doing three or four more Bond films, which is way awesome. He's such a good actor, can't wait to see him in other roles as well.

Sorry I missed this earlier, didn't mean to ignore you- what you're saying is so true though, especially as you get older.

There's this guy I work with who grew up on a farm with no electricity. He is just beginning to understand the outside world and American culture. Its actually been eye-opening talking to him because he has a whole different view of the world. Its really weird/cool. I have no clue what it would be like growing up in an isolated woodland completely insulated from modern society. It makes you realize how materialistic everything is and also realize how much consumerism defines who we are as a people.

Have you ever wondered why you were born in this time period? Out of all the other eras and epochs in the history of the universe, I was born in 1984. I like this time period but there are times when I think, "Why was I born in this era and not in any other?" Maybe there's a reason, maybe not. For me its kinda weird if you actually think about it. Haha or maybe its weird for me to think about it.

I agree. The villains are much better now. They're more realistic, more human, and are still adequately menacing and/or creepy. I feel the same way about the Bond girls in the last two films, especially the two main ones. They make for good foils for Bond(Vesper in the sense that she saw right through Bond, but still ended up falling for him and because she was a complete mystery to him and Camille because they shared a sense of comradery and because she provided a mirror for Bond so he could see what would happen to him if he let vengeance consume him) and are interesting and vulnerable as well.

You do need to watch Quantum more though. There are a lot of things I've picked up on repeated viewings that I missed before.

I have wondered about it. many times, actually. I used to think that if I could've picked a time period in which to be born I would've chosen arthurian times, but then I thought about the lack of bathing opportunities and I decided this period isn't so bad after all. there's no guarantee I would've been born a princess or some other flavor of nobility with access to bathing a couple of times a year, instead of a couple of times over my lifetime. ick. I've also at various times thought of several other time periods--I admit it, I am a history nerd--but what it all boils down to is that if I had been born at any other time, even a year or two before or after when I was born, I wouldn't be me, I'd be someone else.

the level of consumerism here in the states is amazing. when I went to egypt, I left my cell phone at home and I felt so weird without it. I'm neither an avid texter nor talker, but I use it as my alarm clock and it was strange not to have even that. when I was in mexico a couple of years ago, we were invited to dinner at the local pastor's home. he told us that he picked up his family and moved to that town on blind faith with absolutely nothing, and everything in their home had been provided by the local congregation, from the house to the sofas to the dishes. it was amazing. we would never think of doing something like that here. I'm preparing to move across a couple of states and I'm thinking of all the things I have to jam into my car and what I need to purchase there. even as I thought about moving across the world, my mom kept saying, "you'll only be able to take what you can fit in a couple of suitcases!" and I had to consider what I would be able to pack. people in other cultures live with next to nothing and are happy with it, and then here we are with this moremoremore attitude and we're so unhappy.

there is something seriously wrong with that picture.
