Need trumpet help

I can't really explain why, but I've been playing trumpet for 3-4 weeks and I need to be good enough to be in a college marching band by August. I'm just basically looking for helpful tips on anything from technique to building range.

My current range is low A to high F (sometimes G). I know all the fingerings (for the most part) and I got the staff down and all...I just need to build stamina, range, and control.

Please hurl advice at me. I can't afford a teacher. I practice 2 hours a day 6 days a week. I'm more than willing to do the work. I'm a very determined person, I do whatever I set my mind to...I just don't have a teacher in this case. Guitar has been my instrument for 6 years, trumpet is not foreign to me but it's definitely new.

Thanks. Hopefully people still visit this forum.

What are you practicing?

If there's a particular type of repertoire you're looking to play (like if you're gunning to get into a halftime show or something like that), I'd ask someone in the current band to give me the titles of songs that are likely to be included in that repertoire and then practice those exclusively.

In 3 months, you're not going to become a great trumpeter, but you might make a passable band player in that time if that's all you focus on in practice.

Any chance you could go sit in (not play) on the practices of whatever group you're looking to join?

Haha...the Goin' Band does about 6 different shows a year, not just 1. I do have a friends flip folder who has been in the band for 2 years. I should know all or most of the traditionals by August.
