On an Itouch you can use AIM to txt. I haven't set it up, but my computer guru friend does it.

Do you think that the 32gb touch is going to drop in price anytime soon?
you know if you are thinking about the touch because of the expensive data and text plans. get the $5 for 200 texts instead of unlimited texts. that will save you $15 a month.

As in sending the rest of texts online with the other suggested AIM method? Otherwise that could cost alot since thats barely any texts....

That's such a pain though in reality. As much of a good idea it is, people just can't handle texting your email or texting your AIM address or anything else other than your phone number. Then there's the fact that you basically have to tell EVERYONE to do it, and if they don't know and text you, you don't ever get it and they think you're ignoring them. And the fact that you'll have to have your AIM app open all the time since iPhones/iPod Touches don't have push notifications (yet). It's maybe a good way to cut down on how much you text since it's easy to other people from other means, but like I said, it's just a pain to make it so people can get a hold of you easily.

You can jailbreak it and install an app called backgrounder that lets you run one (only one sadly) program at a time in the background Not totally sure how, but it works. Nice for an instant messenger program, voip, whatever.

And suck your battery dry. I've had experience jailbreaking. In the end, to me it wasn't worth the trouble. OS would lag, and the deal breaker for me, had to wait for new jailbreaks before updating to new firmware. Then when you do update, you lose all your jailbroken apps and settings, let alone all your painstakingly organized pages of apps. I just did not want to do that every time even a small update came out.

Hmm true, that's a good point. Fortunately with a touch... if you're within wifi range, there's going to be electricity to charge it with nearby also. I'm one of those people who carry chargers around in my car for both my cameras, my zune, and my phone... ha.
