| Why can't Botch just be dead? They're dead. |

| I find a comparison to Botch a real stretch. The guitar technique is entirely different as are the vocals. The only real similarity is the fact that it's fast, noisy, and chaotic. |

| The vocals sound incredibly similar to me. And you're right, Botch's guitar work is much more skilled. |

| Im really stoked about these 3 songs theyve posted up.
Im glad they got away from the sound they were going for in the last 2 albums. Seriously, I couldnt have bought a third Chariot record if it had just been noise like the last one (seriously... The Fiance was the least enjoyable album I have ever bought).
I think the way they were progressing, the next album would have just been white noise, broken up by a random scream from Josh.
Im glad they took a step back and did something different.

Im glad they took a step back and did something different. | Maybe I'm missing something but I don't hear progression. I agree that The Fiance was very unenjoyable, but I don't hear anything new in the three songs on myspace. I hear slightly less noise but the riffs are still Botch riffs.
I want to like The Chariot because they started out very strong with the whole one-take live recording thing on "Everything is Alive..." and Josh Scogin has potential to be a great vocalist, he was great with Norma Jean. But The Chariot's music is just so dumb. |

| I do not see how the vocals are similar. When Norma Jean created O God The Aftermath, that was basically a Botch record. Cory's vocals sounded a lot like Botch's. Scogin's sound nothing like that.
Again, the guitarwork is not the same. The riffs from American Nervoso and We Are The Romans are a completely different technique of playing. The one thing they have in common with The Chariot is the use of those dissonant 2nds, but more metalcore bands I can count use those.
One thing I'll never really grasp is exactly how Scogin's vocals were better with Norma Jean. They're bland, nearly all one pitch and if I plugged a microphone into a DS-1 I could sound the same. Josh's work with Norma Jean was average and completely boring. I personally am glad he left Norma Jean, because if he hadn't, I probably wouldn't be listening to Norma Jean, and The Chariot wouldn't exist, and I really enjoy both those bands.
I still say Botch is a real stretch and nothing is going to change that because I don't hear whatever you're hearing. |

You quoted my post, but you didnt really respond to it at all...
From EAEBNIDNIB they progressed to the sound on The Fiance. And my point was was that if they had progressed to an even more chaotic sound I just could not have bought the record.
Im glad they took a step back from that super super chaotic sonic mess that was The Fiance to what apears is going to be an awesome metalcore record with Wars and Rumors of Wars.

You are correct. OGTA is a phenomenal record. Its quite similar to Botch but is done super well. Quote: |

| I don't deny there is a difference. My point is that Botch's riffs are good and The Chariot's are not. To me, maybe not to you, it sounds like they took what Botch did and dumbed it down. Quote: |

| They're still very monotone on The Chariot's albums. Quote: |

| I still think The Fiancée is a brilliant album. Incredibly difficult to listen to, but brilliant. |

When something is so "chaotic/hard to listen to" when does the line from music to noise get crossed. I enjoy music, but music has an inherent lack of chaos to it, else we would all buy the album of a toddler pounding blocks on the fretboard of a guitar plugged into a 5150, whilst their kindred played a xylophone...
In short, I never understood references to music as chaotic.

In short, I never understood references to music as chaotic. | Agreed. I have no problem with people playing what they want, if its noise then so be it...do whatever it takes to express yourself...but it irritates me when that noise is touted as brilliance or above par music. |

But Bach was a genius, not whatever challenges the norm. Sometimes the norm is merely that which sounds good, and challenging it, just shows you do not understand why consensus took the course it did.
I like good music, but good music and chaotic music cannot be the same, since music requires order. I love when someone throws in unusual instruments, I just don't get the whole noise thing...
