| Anyone been keeping up with the news? These town hall meeting with Representatives across the country have taken an ugly turn lately. People are yelling, screaming, chanting, and demanding that Reps explain why they're not representing the people. One the one hand, it gives me a big sigh of relief that Americans do care about the BS going on, and are growing a pair. These meetings prove it. On the other hand, it still saddens me that people only take action when its about issues that threaten to directly affect them (health care reform). Still, I'll take it. What's been going on only further reinforces my belief that martial law wouldn't be successful in the USA. I have a feeling that the Obama era is not going to be a smooth one domestically.....

And as much as I hope Obama does right by this country, based on some of the stuff that he's already setting up, I can't help but see us heading in an Orwellian direction, what with this whole "opposition tipline" thing going on to name an example.
Of course, that may be the conservative upbringing in me talking(despite the fact that I'm not that big on politics anymore, I still lean to the conservative side for the most part), but I'm very nervous right now about the direction we as a country are heading in right now.
By the way, you really ought to check a late night talk show host by the name of Craig Ferguson. He comes on right after Letterman (he took Kilgore's place a couple of years ago). The guy doesn't have an accompanying band or a well-funded studio, but IMO, he doesn't even need one. He's hysterically funny and fresh (the guy barely goes by any scripts at all, incorporating a lot of improvising into his monologue and his interviews with guests are completely spontaneous). He can also do hilarious impersonations of Sean Connery (which is helped out by the fact that he is Scottish), Michael Caine, and numerous others. Check him out as soon as you can (he's actually already upstaged Conan O'Brien as my favorite late night talk show host).

When I was in Boston on vacation this past July, he hosted the city's 4th of July spectacular, and introduced Neil Diamond (aka the man). It was great.

They're getting involved not out of concern for the welfare of the country, but because largely, these people are insured, and don't give a rat's ass about anyone else since their own is covered. |

I personally don't trust the motives behind it. Yeah, the reasons are selfish for the anger, but it's better than no anger at all.
