Should I begin the Job Search???

Hey guys,

I wanted to seek some Christian advice. I just graduated from college in June of 08. I got my first "big" job after college in September. I'm in the Aviation industry, and I love it. I moved from Tallahassee, FL to Greenwich, CT for the job and i'm sad to say i'm not really satisfied with my decision. I sit a desk for 10 hours a day for 4 days a week communicating Flight Sensitive information to my companies pilots...It is a nessecary position to maintain operational control. The pay is amazing, but I feel like I should have some sort of enjoyment out of my job.

Now, my gripe is that my fiance' is still in Florida...we will be getting in married in December of 09. My thoughts are to get a job back home in Florida...there is an immense amount of Aviation opportunities throughout the state. I also have a stronger network of peers throughout Florida which would give me an advantage in my career down there. Should I take a leap of faith and start the job search? There are other opportunities available, I will be closer to my Fiance', friends and family...There are more important things in life than focusing a paycheck right???

Congratulations on landing a great job, and your impending marriage.

Yes, there are more important things in life than the number of zeros on your paycheck. I can't see any reason why you couldn't begin a job search in Florida, and if you and your fiance' are on board with a more modest income, it should be workable. It's important to begin planning your lives together, and her input is important as well.

Good luck.

If you're unhappy there is no amount of zeros on the end of your paycheck that will make you feel better. However, I would make sure I had pretty much nailed down a job before I left the one I had. I know faith is important, but so is planning.

Congrats on the wedding by the way.

I second what everyone has said so far, and add that it's never too soon to start networking and get your feelers out there.

The money will work itself out, especially with her added income.

Pilot here..... out of curiousity, are you an ACARS guy, or on the dispatch side of things? I was flight instructing up until recently... and now I'm looking for work. My thoughts are this: If you can find something good in Florida, go for it. Otherwise, there's no harm in looking. In this industry, there's pretty much no such thing as 'job security.' Say, your company isn't hiring pilots by chance, are they?

I'm in Dispatch for a Fractional Share company...The industry has been slammed by this economic crisis over the past several months. Pilots especially are being hung out dry and getting furloughed. Unfortunately CitationShares is on a hiring freeze and is not hiring anyone.

Thanks again guys for all your input...You've reaffirmed my thoughts and prayers. I'm going to get the ol' resume out and start polishing it up. I know God has a plan, I just need to continue praying that he will make the way clear. Thanks again!
