Not a big fan of lack of controls on the device itself. This makes having special headphones a must. You can't use your favorite pair of headphones with it.

that's just the card. a run of the mill compact mp3 player w/ 4gb is about $50-60. Which makes the Apple price of $80 right where it normally is in relation to other products.

I wonder how long it will take for some kind of adapter to be made allowing you to use your own headphones. I personally hate the headphones that come with iPods. I much prefer my in-ear Sennheisers.

Probably not long, but if it's an Apple branded product it's going to cost you at least $29.99. I would say $49.99 but that kind of kills the deal.

so I bought one and got it today. It's quite nice, actually. I still can't get over how small it is. and the voice over for the song title and artist is actually really good.

Yuck. Honestly this makes me think apple has taken their near-monopolist strategies to a whole new level. Controlling what HEADPHONES you use seems insanely ridiculous. That right there stops me from even considering buying it. I very much like my nice headphones.

Headphones aren't a way of life, nor are they a deterrent to this product. If you want to use different headphones, buy a different iPod, or MP3 player. It is a free market, and no one stops you.

BTW this is a very very sleek looking device. I think its insane how small they keep getting, while still remaining large enough for practical use (the SNL with Will Ferrel and the super tiny cell phone comes to mind). Its absolutely perfect for working out and such.

I have to say that I love iPod brand headphones. And so that's only a plus for me.
