| I'm listening to Anathallo's Canopy Glow right now. Well, it's actually the [Engine] Glow mix on my computer. But whatever, both versions sing the same tune; this record is fanfreakintastic.
Ended up going to church yesterday across town from where the usual dive is with my step-brother and his girlfriend. It was kind of a short notice plan, but I'm glad it ended up happening, truth be told. This is the same place I came with our parents for Easter services. It's a new church, which means it's continually been growing over the past month, and I assume that'll be the trend there for a while. It kind of reminds me of the church I was going to in Abilene last year. They play the shiney new spangly worship tracks (which I'm not a fan of...but it's easier to tolerate then the old fashion CoC singalongs). The pastors preach on subjects that are actually relevant to Christians in the modern era, which is a very refreshing change. Hopefully I can talk them into going back again as often as possible. Or maybe I'll just start going by myself if it comes to that. I hate going to church alone, but we do what we need to sometimes.
Several evenings ago, I was talking online with Sabrina (she's made mention of it in her blog already) about how frustrating it is trying to be really, genuinely honest with people. Like this very blog post. There are very important ideas and thoughts swimming about in the backburner of my mind as I type these words, but I can't seem to shoot them down my arm and through my fingers. My best guesstimate is that it's just easier to think to yourself about all of the terrible, personal thoughts and failings, but it becomes infinately tougher to admit them to anybody else.
But I don't know. Penny for your thoughts?
Well, anyway, there's my attempt at a musing with some sort of depth to it for today. Now, in a bit of a TWIST, on to blog quotes!!!! |

Bishop Allen: Grr... and The Broken String

Actually, you may hate all of that. I don't believe we've been aquainted musically yet, and for some reason I have a hunch that you may be one of those silly metal heads Quote: |
I've never been to Cracker Barrel, but I only hear good things about it. What were the dumplings contained within?
| It's a good restaurant. I wouldn't go there very often, however. The food there is really, really rich. The dumplings were poured over chicken. The bird wasn't very tasty, but the dumplings hid it's blandness well. Quote: |
Acapella is usually pretty awesome...have you ever done any acapella singing? I always thought it would be fun to try.
| I was in the choir during middle school and did some singing growing up in the church. Yeah, it can be a lot of fun if your with the right group of people. Quote: |

Yeah, my youngest sister to this day hates Cracker Barrel with a passion.
I don't mind so much anymore that my sister moved back to Ohio and we don't go to Cracker Barrel anymore on a regular basis. | Wow....I can't even imagine eating Cracker Barrel that much or that often. Haha, I think I would hate it too if we ate there that much. Quote: |

| I really have no comment at this point, save to point out to any and all who are presently peering in my particular direction that I am here, and reading, and that I heartily endorse The Long Fall Back to Earth, and while I'm not prepared to join those reviewers-of-questionable-repute at JFH in calling it "better than Good Monsters." I'll definitely call it not-out-of-its-league-when-compared-to-Good Monsters.

I just saw that you'd started a new blog. I mean I knew you were back posting on CGR some, and we've talked some elsewhere, but since the link in your sig leads to your closed blog...well...I didn't think you were blogging again.
Actually, I don't even remember how I even saw this now. I mostly live in my user cp. So, it was random.
I decided to get that new Jars CD after all. It should be here tomorrow. |

I'll definitely call it not-out-of-its-league-when-compared-to-Good Monsters. | 1) Ever since I found out that at least two of their "critics" were only 16 years old, I haven't bothered listening to whatever JFH has to say. Not that teenagers can't have good thoughts, but when I discovered that tidbit of information, and reflected on the quality of their reviews....that just explained soooo much.
2) I think you have a really good perspective on the record. I am not ready to say it one ups Good Monsters either, but I certainly feel like it's in neighboring territory. They're both just really great records, simply because of the relevance of their messages and themes. Good Monsters tackled brokeness, apathy, and the ongoing struggle to be honest in a very distrustful world. The Long Fall... deals more with personal issues like intimacy, isolationism and how to keep relationships strong in times of crisis. Lyrically, I just think they both have a lot of important messages to share that are really refreshing in the current period of Christian music. However, TLFBTE is by far my favorite of the two, musically speaking Quote: |

Ha, dude, I am so glad you said something. I didn't even realize that still linked to my old blog. I meant to take care of that weeks ago, but forgot about it I guess. I'll do that tomorrow
Anyway, glad to see you just didn't know about this one. I was beginning to think you didn't like me anymore
....yeah, I've really got nothing to say tonight. I'm listening to Derek Webb tonight, does that count? Actually, I got in the mood to listen to him after a bit of rabble rousing elsewhere on the forums. People will tell you to go listen to She Must & Shall Go Free, and they wouldn't be wrong to make a demand like that. But personally, The Ringing Bell is really where it's at y'all. *This is absofruitly, one hundred and ten percent just a joke. Please don't ban me guys, or worse, neg rep me. |

It was funny though, you kept changing the text down there, and I'd think "Hey, maybe Drew re-opened his blog", but every time I'd click it would take me to the closed one. Quote:

I did get my Jars CD today. I listened to it about three times in a row while working. That is saying a lot for me. In other words, I REALLY like it. I mean I've been a fan ever since they first came out, but I just wasn't sure about this one. I like it way more than I thought it would. There is just some excellent stuff going on.
A funny thought hit me while listening through it so much. That album is filled with pickup line material. heh. Some of those lines are kind of cheesy but fun. |

| Cool man, I'm glad you like it. To be honest, I am kind of surprised you like it so much (it doesn't strike me as your particular musical cup of tea), but that really just goes to prove my original point, that it's a really good album. Ha, yeah, there is a lot of cheese in certain places, but I don't know, I think it works. Especially on some of the catchier tunes like Closer and Don't Stop. Really, everything about the lyrics and music really makes me feel like this is a celebratory album, which is great. Jars really hasn't had one so consistently upbeat in a long time....maybe ever.
So Wednesday night class continues to seem sort of pointless, but at least it's an excuse to get out of the house every hump day evening. And, that's a terrible reason to go to any church service, I know. So it goes. It's a pity too. Good sized community and the potential for good lessons, just lots of burnt out teachers and elders and deacons.
Anyway, I will write more tomorrow. For now, sleep...eventually |

| Heh.
If it had been more electronic driven, like I had thought it was going to be, I would not have liked it as much. They didn't get too crazy with that stuff though. I can definitely hear the 80's influence in a lot of places. One song, I can't remember the title right now, reminded me so much of Duran Duran I had to check the liner notes to make sure it wasn't a cover. One of my friends is a huge Duran Duran fan, and he used to play them a lot when I was in the truck with him. I like them alright, but don't love them. I like this particular Jars song quite a bit though.
I think I might like this better than Good Monsters actually. I know on the first few listens I do.
When opening up the CD case to pull it out, I was hoping it was a Jars CD and I didn't mistakenly get Hannah Montana. This is one bright CD. Then the inside cover looks like Q-bert or something. It works though.
It's good to hang around with church peoples. |

I think I might like this better than Good Monsters actually. I know on the first few listens I do. | Yeah, I assumed early on that it was going to have a heavy electronica influence, but it really doesn't. There're enough eletronic music that it permeates through the entire album, but it's never really overwhelming. I think the Jars struck a really nice blend with the way they mixed inorganic elements with their acoustic rock sound. You know, I am getting closer to saying The Long Fall... is better then Good Monsters too. Part of what holds me back is that I made a big deal about GM when it came out, that it seems a bit fanboyish to claim that their newest record is even better. GM was an important album for me when it came out, so it's always going to hold a signifigant place in my heart, but....this new one is just a better overall record, especially on the musical front. They are excellent though, so I guess it ultimately doesn't matter which one I rank higher then the other
Anyway, I am really glad you decided to go ahead and pick this one up Jeremy. I imagine it'll still be somewhere in my top five albums by the end of the year. Quote: |

| Haha, yeah. Maybe a couple years back, I would have absolutely freaked out upon opening up to a bright, solid neon pink CD, but I guess I'm more secure in my masculinity by now I love the Q-Bert cube art too. It's really is a nice artistic package, I got to say. I kind of disliked the cover art when it was first revealed though, because it looked like some sort of Backstreet Boys reunion or something. Fortunately, the cover looks much, much better up close Quote: |

I don't know, the spelling just seemed a bit off to me (though I'm sure it's not). and some sort of ancient deity's name was the first idea that popped into my head. Babylonian seemed to fit. Greek was my first mythological choice, of course. Man, I absolutely LOVED reading through different mythologies as a kid... Quote: |
