DSi: Everything you didn't want in a cell phone

Nintendo has set the release date for the DSi in the United States for April 5, 2009 at a price of $169. For $40 more than a DS lite, you can add a sweet camera to your handheld gaming system. We're not exactly sure what purpose this will serve, especially noting that the camera would be on the backside of the screen while playing any given game (perhaps a real-life version of Pokémon Snap, good luck finding that Dugtrio you were looking for). Ok, so there IS a secondary camera on the inside of the hinge next to the mic just incase you feel like making funny faces at yourself.

Already released in Japan, the DSi comes with a brighter screen (paired with a shorter battery life) that has been said to be more resiliant and responsive. It also adds SD card support, much like it's console brother, with a stereo jack for listening to music straight off the card. Other new features include an upgraded Wi-Fi card and a voice recorder.

Though it may be a cool feature I'm just not sure if I see the purpose of a camera on a hand held system. It's not like the camera is even on the front like a notebook computer so you can show yourself. Oh well, I'm not even looking for a DS, but if I were I doubt I'd jump for this one. Oh yeah, the lack of GBA slot is a deal killer for me.

I don't really care about the lack of a GBA port, as I only have 1 GBA game, and I'll just play that on the only screen that works right on my DS Lite

So my sister actually has one of those cameras for the original Gameboy and she even has the printer to go with it.

DS Camera: Silly gimmick at 21.

I'm slightly curious about the potential for DLC and the DSWare store. It could be really awesome. Not sure if I'll get one, though.
