I was about to say that it looks like spaces but realized spaces was a virtual desktop hehe. I still use space while im working and when i dont have the two monitor setup. Its much better way to organize stuff and before i got my monitor i was very happy using it.

Dual monitors feels way more natural to me than using virtual desktops... I'll pick dual monitors over virtual any day.

Three monitors is even cooler than two. Haven't heard of four though... maybe this will become like razor blades and companies will just keep adding screens... sweeeeeeet

As I've heard. Thats actually the only reason I wish I was still on Windows, as Cedega can't run Supreme Commander yet, and I have both the original and Forged Alliance sitting here collecting dust.

Well, when I get my gaming PC built, this one's just going to be a work, internet and email machine and possibly run it as a private server for some game, and that one is only going to be games (I'm going to run it through a smartlaunch-type frontend and keep ISOs of every game i have on a huge eSATA), and its probably going to run on Windows 7 just due to game compatibility. Which makes me sad, because I currently run Starcraft, Warcraft III, and Counterstrike at higher framerates than I ever got on Windows. Definitely keeping the two monitor setup on both, though.

The big downside for me is that I game. A lot. And wheres I can play most games through Cedega without worrying about my mouse zipping offscreen while I'm trying to gank in DotA, I can't run a few linux-native games without disabling the second monitor, which can be a pain just to play Nexuiz.

Cedega still exists? I thought it was on its way out years ago...

You might try Wine (what Cedega was forked from years ago, when Wine was under a different license).

Seems some people have had success with Supreme Commander: http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManage...ation&iId=4051

Its still there. I do use wine for non-game applications. Wine wont run starcraft well. Cedega will. Wine can't even remotely handle Red Alert 3. Cedega runs it like it was made for Linux. The people that have success with supreme commander experience no online play, choppy graphics and sound, and an unpleasant gaming experience. I'll wait for it to run on Cedega, or wait until I have my gaming PC built.

So long, two monitors. Even considering the convenience, you're more trouble than you're worth when it comes to StarCraft and DotA.

I wish Linux had better implementation methods for two screen support. Oh wells.

EDIT: I couldn't even go a few minutes without hooking up the second monitor. I actually can't work without it now. One of these days, I will get everything running correctly. Eventually. Until then, I'll deal with some hassle.

That's because windows makes such things simple. Linux really does not. We have two options: TwinView and Xinerama. Twinview is easy to set up but (seemingly) buggy when it comes to certain things. Xinerama is making each monitor run a seperate X session and combining them into one, but requires and X restart everytime you enable or disable a screen (making it a hassle for games since some games don't like two screens in Linux), and now it seems to crash X every time I switch back to that. Its insane.

(Which I am amazed that Windows still has no built-in support for, and OS X included it in 07, but the feature has been used among various Unix-like, and non-Unix like operating systems since the 90's.)
'Twas my favorite windows power toy. I used to use it a ton on gnome as well. Know of a good version for vista that acts like a native component like the xp powertoy for a 64bit version of vista?

Unfortunately, no.

I tend to stay out of Windows as much as possible. I've got an XP Virtualbox setup that I use to interface to my scanner and do misc things in, and all my gaming is done in Vista, so I spend little time dealing with its interface or various software.
